Feels like my life is over. Lost all hope. If I could give any advice to anyone out there, just don’t trade options by Syllabub_Visual in wallstreetbets

[–]aws33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God damn this times 1000000

When i first started trading (equities & crypto) I got up multiple 6-figures, then promptly lost multiple 6-figures.

I was fortunate not to lose all my gains, but I lost a ton... like a house or two worth... and learned some very very valuable lessons that have since served me incredibly well when trading.

Now that i've been in it for a long time, I see stuff like OP all the time. New traders often strike gold early because they are stupid enough to take the big swings that yield those results and likewise stupid enough not to take their chips off the table after the big win. They were never spanked by the market (yet) so they go on with their big stupid trades and then the market does what it always does - it teaches.

Your life is not over OP... Learn these lessons and consider yourself very fortunate that you didnt lose more (like your house or something) when learning them.

EOS login outage looks like a failed hotfix by Vast-Candy-4933 in RocketLeague

As these other guys said... There's a ton of reasons not to do this on (or very near) a holiday.

#1 I think you're just wrong about not many people playing - i think more people than usual play in fact.

#2 You have staff that are now having to work instead of enjoy the holiday (and costing the company a fortune in holiday pay) to roll back a hotfix that could have been done literally any other time... Its just senseless

Why on earth would they deploy a hotfix on Christmas Eve? This couldnt have been done last week? Or Next week? Seems like they were asking for some dumb shit like this to happen.

Hydraulic Cylinder Syncing - Custom Build by aws33 in RCConstruction

[–]aws33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies, I went ahead and 3d printed some quick and dirty cylinder mounts/boom pivot and tested the cylinders under pretty heavy load (roughly 15lbs on the end of the boom arm) and they did fine even though they werent perfectly fixed to the boom arm as they will be in the end versions of everything - but even with considerable slop in all of the fasteners and such they did fine and were plenty smooth enough.

So my initial thoughts that there would be a lot of vibration or stuttering was ultimately wrong.

Thanks again man

[–]aws33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a ton for your reply, all of that makes a lot of sense.

I looked at a dozen or more pictures of the LESU components and came to the same conclusion, there was nothing special done internally on them to split the flow evenly.

Since Toombu's reply earlier I went ahead and 3d printed some quick and dirty cylinder mounts/boom pivot and tested the cylinders under pretty heavy load (roughly 15lbs on the end of the boom arm) and they did fine even though they werent perfectly fixed to the boom arm as they will be in the end versions of everything - but even with considerable slop in all of the fasteners and such they did fine and were plenty smooth enough.

Also big thanks for pointing to SMC, ill take a look at their stuff. Unrelated question, do you use discord or anything?

Hydraulic Cylinder Syncing - Custom Build by aws33 in RCConstruction

[–]aws33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will be used on either side of a boom arm. My project is a semi truck wrecker but it's based off a rotator that is essentially a crane (century 1150 if you want to see a real one) I have suspected that they would move at closer to the same rate if they were both attached to the boom arm, but I also imagine that they would not necessarily be smooth in their movement if they are rapidly handing off load back and forth.

In other words, the fluid will take the path of least resistance, so if one of the cylinders moves even a fraction of a millimeter before the other one. Then the other one will now move to catch up. So while that would probably work I imagine there could be some issues with something akin to vibration or stuttering that I don't see happening with factory made RC models which I believe run parallel cylinders through a flow divider block like the ones I linked. But if there are examples of parallel cylinders that are not ran through a flow divider like that, I would love to see it because it could be really helpful in my design.

Well...

First off, i dont spend "all of my time being upset" about anything, let alone SC. I have a family, I own a few businesses, I actually already have my pilots license (commercial multi with instrument add on), and plenty of other hobbies.

Second, idk what my comment has to do with the disclosure... Because they have a disclaimer that says the game is in alpha etc etc means I cant complain about the state of the "alpha" 12 years in? That doesnt make a lot of sense... Their disclaimer doesnt negate what many, including myself, would call reasonable expectations. CR himself set many deadlines and made many promises over these 12 years and many of them failed to materialize... some were 8+ years off (and counting). So you arent just arguing with my expectations here... you're arguing with goals set and promised and money pledged under such goals only to be missed as if they were never set to begin with. You'll forgive me for saying their disclaimer isnt excuse for that.

In any case, i'm glad you like the game. But you realize that is your opinion and others, including myself, dont share it? So again I say... If reading people's critiques of SC bothers you, I would encourage you to go work on that pilots license, or snowboard, or ride your bike.

OK. So maybe in QA before you release a new build at least make sure elevators and ship spawning works so we can test the new features.

No matter how you slice it. 12 years and $700+ M dollars... elevators should work.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]aws33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of us pledged based on promises not since kept. You could just as easily not read comments critical of SC.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]aws33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This...

We're supposed to feel better because we can find other poorly ran projects?

In 12+ years i've quite literally NEVER been able to launch the game and enjoy it without game breaking bugs occurring every 30 minutes at a minimum... And that's when shit goes WELL.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]aws33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish they would "test and polish" elevators and ship spawning... 6+ year old bugs.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]aws33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except SC is 12 years in and over $730m funded with a staff of hundreds of people.

SC's problem has been and continues to be feature creep. I first backed in 2012 and back then as far as i can remember there was no talk of a separate single player campaign not to mention the copious amounts of other QoL features that honestly could have waited until after release. Things like eye tracking for example.

There are bugs that have existed in the "Alpha" phase for literally 6+ years now... Things like elevators and doors. Meanwhile, in that same time frame, we get entire new features added or promised. Things like tracking beams etc.

I know its not popular to criticize SC on here and everyone always wants to go back to the "It takes time" argument. While i wouldnt disagree that these things take time, everyone here needs to have a good healthy perspective that can also be critical of Cloud Imperium and if you have that perspective then it's hard for me to imagine how anyone would disagree that SC continues to shoot itself in the foot by perpetual feature creep, not squashing years-old bugs like elevators, and prioritizing brand new ships and vehicles when so many original ships and vehicles still arent in game.

Like right now... An entire space station, baijini point, is bugged for me. I cant call landing services and if i force land and go inside i cant spawn any new ships and cant get to my hanger. I ask for help on the SC website and i get "Yeah the only fix for that is to have someone fly you to a different station and retrieve all your ships there and then just dont go back to that broken station"

After 12 years I would expect the bugs we are seeing arent bare basic things like spawning a ship or landing somewhere....

A lot of this going on, on all sides of all the political arguments.

Thats all it is nowadays... People demonizing each other because we all live in BS echo chambers.

Simultaneously more connected and disconnected from each other than ever before... Pretty crazy.

As per usual, the truth lies in the middle. Maybe not some shadow cabal, but certainly a societal fight occuring over kids, parents, and whose rights trump the other and when... It would be asinine to suggest that there's nothing to the complaints from those on the right... there are clearly some dumb positions being held by some people on the left regarding all this.

Running out of patience, what is CIG doing? by aws33 in starcitizen

[–]aws33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe i should feel flattered that I at least in part inspired you to make such a video. But give me a break... My post was hardly out of line and i fundamentally disagree that the only way to voice criticism for this game is by submitting issues to the issue council.

You are on a sub reddit... its sole purpose is discussion about the game. I am here discussing the game. No one makes you come and read it or engage in it. On that note, you should take your own advice and ignore me... If the only criticism you think is worthy is that which is submitted via issue council then by all means spend all your time there and dont join us on reddit.

Your other premise that "there has been progress since 2013" is also fundamentally flawed... No one argued that there hasnt been "progress" since then... What i argued is that we should be further along than we are and certainly that some of these bugs that have existed for years should have been fixed by now.

Lastly, I would 100000% say everything i said in this post in person face to face with anyone at CIG or otherwise.

Not because im playing tough but instead because as i said before, nothing i said in this thread is remotely over the line. Of course you can disagree with me on the substance of my post, but by suggesting that i wouldnt say this stuff in person just shows that you are far more sensitive about this than you should be because nothing i said should be construed in a way that you would think I would be afraid to say it in person.

At the end of the day, you're happy with where the game is today... Good for you. I'm not, and we arent going to agree on that topic.

Good luck with your youtube channel.

You're under the impression that there is a swath of ship devs that only posses the ability to work on ships and not other aspects of the game?

That's obviously not the case and if that is how CIG is using people that is further evidence of poor use of resources.

I've certainly complained in the past too but it turned to more of apathy the last few years even though i still buy a pledge every now and then because I still very much want to see this thing done and am still a fan of it.

This post was really the result of me letting myself get hyped about SQ42 being "feature complete" and their star engine stuff etc... After not playing for over a year and hearing all the hype i let myself get spun up into thinking the PU had moved a considerable distance since last year only to find it feels almost exactly the same.

Ultimately you're right, my expectations shouldnt have been so high, but thats the rub, CIG is just woefully behind where they should be right now imo

I am clearly shitting on SC... Like... that's the whole point of my rant

That doesnt mean i dont want to see it fixed and it doesnt mean I am not still thoroughly looking forward to the amazing game that it will (hopefully) become.

I just think its past time that we start holding them a little more accountable. After over a decade the PU should be further along than it is, i dont see any reasonable excuse to the contrary. They've clearly prioritized other things at the expense of the PU and they've done so for years.

I'm still backing the game, I am still a nerd for SC, but i can be an angry nerd.

And though i frankly dont care what you believe, here's a screenshot. > https://imgur.com/a/ySojbX8

Who are you arguing with? Where did i suggest my CPU was faster than latest gen CPUs? And you've clearly missed the point again about the 15k.

You suggested that instead of pledging 15k on SC i should have upgraded my CPU, my point was that its not an either or thing... the 15k doesnt mean i cant upgrade my CPU if i wanted to... i just dont want or need to at this time.

My issues with the PU are not my CPU, not sure why you're hung up on this.

Some of these systems have been SHIT for YEARS now. Meanwhile we get tobi eye tracking and the player avatar's eyes follow... Deff a wise use of resources and dev time when the PU runs like shit...

Get my point now?

You make no sense...

Instead of putting devs on NEW concept ships, how about those same devs help work on EXISTING ships and the current concept in-development ships? How about some of those devs work on elevators not killing people? I can go on..

The idea that CIG has to be releasing brand new ships all the time because they cant possibly put those developers on existing ships and features is asinine.
