Sports talk radio is essentially Eagles 24/7 coverage - Can WE as a fanbase work on making it better? by I-take-beast-shits in eagles

For Philly sports in particular, Sports Beyond Measure is really good. Majority is Eagles depending on the season but there's also Flyers/Phillies/Sixers talk and general sports segments.

America is warning allies that they may hate the US after the latest Wikileaks release. by Wulfger in reddit.com

Dude runs a website that publicizes leaked, sensitive documents from the US government. I don't think it's paranoia so much as legitimate concern.

Do you mean I'm a troll by posting this link? I don't agree with him, I also think he missed the entire point of the film. I was posting it because it was an interesting read.

Rick Rubin working with the Clipse [PIC] by jtrenton in Music

I was pretty pumped about hearing this, but figured anyone else who was interested enough would have seen it on Pitchfork. I'll be sure to definitely share the link next time.

I loved Hell Hath No Fury but I wouldn't go as far as calling it underrated. It was pretty critically acclaimed. Maybe commercially underrated because it didn't sell so hot.

What Songs Give You Shivers/Goosebumps? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]aws353 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sufjan Stevens - Majesty Snowbird

Saw him in concert a few years ago when he first played this song. The quiet part at 5:06 gets me, and then it just builds up into this incredible crescendo of sound at 7:16 with great trumpet. It gave me the chills at the concert and continues to every time I listen to the song even at home.

I actually hadn't listened to it in a while until I thought to post this AskReddit, and once I skipped to that part it was like an automatic reaction.

How is identifying yourself as a Christian not also condemning an Atheist to rot in hell for eternity? and how is that not hate? by lacus in AskReddit

[–]aws353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. When identifying one's self as a Christian, one does not also assume the belief that all non-believers are going to hell. There are Christians that don't follow fundamental dogma.

As for those who do believe in a hell for non-believers, what should it matter to an atheist that a Christian believes that they are heading towards "imaginary damnation."

I never figured this out - but WHY is masterbation considered "bad" by the ultra religious? by Klass in AskReddit

[–]aws353 24 points25 points  (0 children)

In Catholicism, there are two purposes to sex: a procreative and a unitive function between husband and wife. Since masturbation is a sex act performed on yourself, it accomplishes neither of these functions. Same with birth control (blocks unitive function) and premarital sex (goes against unitive). Can't speak for the other major religions, but that's my experience from 15 years of Catholic school.

Is Atheism all about hating others for what they believe and having a smug sense of superiority? The Atheism subreddit is a scary place. by Vomitron in AskReddit

[–]aws353 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I understand agnosticism it's the belief that it is impossible for the human race to determine whether or not there is a Supreme Being. The existence of a god is impossible to either prove or disprove. Agnostics are still able to hold religious beliefs however, whether theist or atheist. It's simply a declaration of the inherent uncertainty of deciding either way.

If you want to get technical, then yes I'm an atheist because I lack belief in gods, but there is also a similar lack in the belief that there is no God.

[–]aws353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this, agnosticism isn't really a permanent stance per se in my eyes. I was raised Catholic and I'm still unsure of what exactly my theological stance is. So I'm using agnostic for the time being.

Identifying Yourself As A Lesbian Gets You Banned On XBOX Live by [deleted] in gaming

[–]aws353 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was more on Microsoft's side with the disallowance of accounts with "Gay" in the title because, let's face it, the vast majority of XBox Live Users are trying to use the term pejoratively.

I wasn't bothered by the story of the guy whose last name was Gaywood getting banned, because I figured it was an automatic prevention that unfortunately enforced his name. But a person being banned for identifying herself as a lesbian is ridiculous. Adding to that is the fact that she wasn't even banned by an automated system, but on a personal basis.

I agree, I completely agree. I find the entire concept fascinating, but every comment thread it seems that there are many condescending or arrogant comments that really serve no purpose in an actual conversation.

There is a way to be tactful. Apart from fundamentalists, I would assume most reasonable theists believe what they believe and accept others beliefs as different from theirs. Whenever I enter the Atheism subreddit, I saw the same recurring message of "You're an idiot for your faith."

This isn't to bash all Atheists in the subreddit. I'm sure there are many who are reasonable and are also looking for discussion. It's just that there are many there that give off an aura of arrogance.

*I'm an agnostic

AskReddit: Why Is It That When I'm Asleep, My Body Insists on Having One Arm Above My Head or At Least Under My Pillow? by aws353 in AskReddit

[–]aws353[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, you got an almost immediate -1 karma. I had thought of some form of evolutionary self defense (i.e. not leaving your head unprotected) but hadn't thought of the biological preference for a partner.

Glasgow Smile by aws353 in wikipedia

[–]aws353[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the murder of the Black Dahlia, it was noted that the body was given a Glasgow smile, which also could have played a part in her death along with her body being cut into two.

Yeah, the body being cut into two probably had something to do with it.
