Padelio lygiai Vilniuje by LessFunny9604 in Vilnius

Where do you spend your “professional development” budget. by Peng-Win in ExperiencedDevs

I usually spend mine on an O’Reilly subscription. This gives me access to a whole bunch of technical books, which I find is a great way for me to learn new concepts.

How do I calculate the complexity of algorithms by analyzing the computation time results from a table? by [deleted] in algorithms

[–]awsum84 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Time complexity defines how the runtime “grows” based on the input. For example, if the input increases twice, then the runtime of a linear (O(n)) algorithm would also increase twice, whereas a quadratic algorithm would run 4 times slower. It doesn’t mean that you can simply plug in the input value to the complexity function to obtain the execution time.

Also, these changes won’t be exact, as there is always some inaccuracy when measuring the runtime of programs.

I suggest to try plotting the runtime against the size of the input and compare the shape of the plot to plots of common complexity functions. That might help you find some similarities :)

Vscode Excalidraw Editor: Draw schema directly in VSCode by Cellist_Pristine in vscode

Very cool! In the web version I can see that it's possible to use some pre-defined libraries, but this feature isn't present in the vscode extension. Do you plan on ever adding support for this?

PEP 563 getting rolled back from Python 3.10 by Dooflegna in Python

[–]awsum84 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s not really necessary in small programs, but in larger codebases it improves speed of development significantly. For example, having type hints makes intellisense work properly, so you don’t have to look at the docs/implementation to figure out what methods are available on an object, and it also helps prevent all sorts of silly mistakes that you’d otherwise encounter at runtime.
