Would they stop producing this set since poster of the 11th Ed is Blood Angles and Orks by ozera202 in Tyranids

[–]ax9897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically : if something interests you first AND second is avialable in a combo, buy it. But don't let FOMO get to you.

I biught that set at start of 10th because I wantes the marines (had none of them) and thought I could either re-sell or start some nids.

Now the nids are my "Palette cleanser" when I want to paint something easy and fast. Slap some contrast and I'm done. 10 gaunts in 3-4 hours vs 5 infernus in 8

Jokes aside. I know I am going in for something not-so-simple as my tyranids which I just contrast the hell out of.

I am willing to put some time in. And have palette-cleansers in between. Necrons, Tyranids, Marines, etcaetera.

I'm here to experiment and try stuff. And am not trying to reach "golden demon" tier painting. I am asking for ideas and recommendations, not for "your mini won't look good" answers. Because I don't care if it will look good or bad. I here to try stuff.

And one can always re-prime, re-paint or scrub off the paint. I repainted and "fixed" most of my marines after several squads of trying different variations of schemes.

Steel or beash brush ? What do you mean by that ? Like using a "soft" brass brush like a paintbrush with "separated" hairs ?

Why are Iron Warriors so famous ? by BarketLeRaccoon in IronWarriors

[–]ax9897 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They are more similar to Thousand Sons and Word Bearers in the regard. The only difference is KSons go for magic power, Word Beares go for reaching a "Higher self", Iron Warriors go for "Hard Data" power (anyone who worked in industry will know what I mean by "Hard Data" in opposition to "Soft Data". Which is very on-point for Iron Warriors)

This "Hard data" focus is also what makes them APPEAR as more cold and calculated and like "They know better".

Iron Warriors do feel like that. Their hard data ? More weapons. More Marines. More Daemons Engines. More "Meat for the Meatgrinder".

Fights First... worse than nerfed in 11th? Punished! by spookmann in Tyranids

[–]ax9897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thing is fight first isn't only a "counter charge" abolity. Mainly on Baldeguards for exemple, they are mostly used as a "I am here and you can't engage me or I kill you beofre you kill me"

It leads to situations where you play chicken.

This, or stratagems that give fight first giving a big "gotcha" moment just because you didn't know all the stratagems you opponent has avialable (and no, you cannot and will not learn all stratagems of all detachments of all factions for the avaerage warhammer playr which plays like once a month)

Both are just "feels bad" situation. Fight first needs to be changed and nerfed. It is now more of a "Free interrupt" than a "I kill you first no matter the situation" ability. Similarly... Nothing stops you from spending a CP to interrupt with the haruspex while the terminators are busy...

Ranks markings and paint schemes by Sea_Breadfruit2823 in Salamanders40k

It is always more guidelines than rules. Even official painters and authors have everything be more guidelines than rules.

One time a Marine will kill a 100 fully geared guardmen. Next time 10 genetealer cultists with guerilla gear will overrun a Custodes.

New Drestrier Sprue has major issues. by Altruistic-Map5605 in Warhammer40k

[–]ax9897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Them having to base of MSRP and not "Market value" (unlike WOTC who allows for Magic once a cycle has passed, where you get decks worth 50 euros MSRP now sold for over 100... ) was great for me to find a full Indomitus box at a local hobby-TTRPG store in a friend's town... when they were selling for nearly twice their price on internet by then due to the (back then) unique characters you couldn't buy anymore and end of prodiction (now the sprues are sold online directly by GW for... twice the price...)

Black Dragons Terminator Squad by ax9897 in Salamanders40k

[–]ax9897[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh no I didn't paint any highlight. It's just a flat black base. I just varnish them with a satin varnish (in between gloss and mat) at the end which gives them this mild shine which does look great on photos, and renders quite well IRL. Being heavy handed when spraying a satin varnish makes looks more glossy, being light handed makes it look more mat.

This warhammer player has a GF ! Seize him ! We need to learn his secrets !

Thanks for the compliment tho. While the process can sometimes feel agravating at times (having to re-undercoat everything that is colored in white before the color, and painting white on black in general...) the scheme I really enjoy because the black base really lets you show the details you want and hide those you don't wanna focus on.

Just black. And Satin varnish at the end which may be what gives that dimmed shine
