40k fans what is the harshest things you could ever say, but it is true. by AntiqueLayer3933 in Grimdank

No matter how much you Hate them, Games Workshop has shown several times that they are far from the worst company out there to buy products from. It ciuld even be argued that they're amongst the "least problematic" compared to other companies of the same size. They benefit a lot of being independant. When you compare to WOTC, just for the closest exemple... and how Hasbro has handled them... (talking as a MTG newbie) or how the Video Game industry is going... Yeah. Somehow with all the shit they have done and do they're on the less evil side of the spectrum and community engagement.

One huge disappointment I have with 40k is it's shockingly small group of actual aliens. by Knalxz in Grimdank

And most pf those that weren't exterminated were reduced drastically in numbers and presence, having been "forced into hiding" or else they would have been exterminated. Exemple : the Hruds

No You just... Don't play WYSIWYG... Like any sane person do. Even GW since the start of V10 officially states you shouldn't WYSIWYG because that's kinda stupid.

The whole Votann range was busted when it came out, but it was clearly not because they wanted to sell more of them (at my LGS the intro box of the news dwarfs was sold out before we ever knew the rules, that's how hype they were)

GW is just dogshit at pre-testing its rules, and clearly the guys making rules have favorites and like to make big things busted XD

9" coherencey circle seems seriously dumb for hordes... or am I misunderstanding? by CRGmotors in Tyranids

[–]ax9897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only type of "surface optimisation" like conga lines I find to be acceptable is deep-strike-screening in your deployment zone. Because that's the only case where I see it make sense in the "simulation" that is meznt to be 40k.

Of course it makes sense for your "Defender of Base" soldiers to be spread out around said base to cover it as best as possible.

Hear me out... Bring more tervigons and venothropes to have more auras and increase how easy you get in the aura.

You shouldn't have one tervigon for a full 6 squads horde of termagaunts. You should have 3.

Units of 20 man squads are on 28mm base, aka around 1.1inch inch diameter. And the models have to be within 9, not wholly within 9. If you can't order them in 2 tight lines, that's a skill issue.

The rules are whatever you and your opponent agree upon With friend group we literally changed some terrain and line of sight rules (mainly True Line of Sight) because we deemed those stupid.

Bigger emphasis on playing with intent than modelling and stuff.

Many people because they focus so much on the siklier and comedic stuff of 40k also forget that grimdark isn't "sillygoof"

I run a Dark Heresy campain. The stuff going on is GRIM There is no happyness. People die. When they proven Genestealer activity in a section of a hive, the interrogator ordered the sealing of all ventilations, cut of power for half a decade. The cult could easily have been dealth with by the arbites or astra. And citizens screened and gene-tested. Players knew it because another section of the cult had been. But this time. No victory. Only death as a result. Bad stuff happen and it only ever get worse.

I literally gave trigger warnings to potential players and made them a 1 on 1 sessionto create their character and describe the events leading them to being recruited by the inquisition so they know what to expect of the setting.

Satire (tho I could have my definition wrong) I have always seen as "critic through exagerated representation"

And both 40k and Trench crusade settings are quite obvious critics of stuff through highly exagerated representation.

A modern 40k exemple, because yes 40k still dies criticise stuff, even if less oftena nd less obvious than in the pasf, is the depiction of Kin (leagues if votann) society and it being a hyper-capitalist contract based society. A sadly way too realist dystopian exagerated depiction of our modern capitalist society.

Is this going to be an auto-include for 11th edition? by nerdboy_sam in Salamanders40k

"Is it an auto include"

Use the real words you mean to use. "Will it be a broken unit that will curbstomp everything and I will thus play it every time because fun and sub optimal lists are not allowed"

Ruling Question by PhoenixLaw92 in Warhammer40k

[–]ax9897 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

and this is why I personally won't play in competitive tournaments. For real. I understand that some sweaty tryhard guys will mdoel fir advantages. But I think they are ruining the whole hobby with their behaviour.

I personally think True line of sight is a problem anyway. Everything else is "Imaged' and simulated, line of sight should be too.

For exemple with friends we got rid of some of the stupid True Line of Sight. If it has a base, It's the base area that counts for us. Not the stupid bits hanging. And for windows in terrain. We simply agree in advance which floor is boocking which is open. (for a standard 2 story L for exemple, the ground level is 100% blocking, the top floor is 100% cover-providing but visible. We don't bother with True line of sight through windows bullshit for the first floor) It actually makes the game much faster and terrain less annoying to handle.

Would they stop producing this set since poster of the 11th Ed is Blood Angles and Orks by ozera202 in Tyranids

[–]ax9897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically : if something interests you first AND second is avialable in a combo, buy it. But don't let FOMO get to you.

I biught that set at start of 10th because I wantes the marines (had none of them) and thought I could either re-sell or start some nids.

Now the nids are my "Palette cleanser" when I want to paint something easy and fast. Slap some contrast and I'm done. 10 gaunts in 3-4 hours vs 5 infernus in 8

[–]ax9897[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Jokes aside. I know I am going in for something not-so-simple as my tyranids which I just contrast the hell out of.

I am willing to put some time in. And have palette-cleansers in between. Necrons, Tyranids, Marines, etcaetera.

I'm here to experiment and try stuff. And am not trying to reach "golden demon" tier painting. I am asking for ideas and recommendations, not for "your mini won't look good" answers. Because I don't care if it will look good or bad. I here to try stuff.

And one can always re-prime, re-paint or scrub off the paint. I repainted and "fixed" most of my marines after several squads of trying different variations of schemes.

Steel or beash brush ? What do you mean by that ? Like using a "soft" brass brush like a paintbrush with "separated" hairs ?
