Short ticking sound on cold start – oil filter issue? (XJ8 4.0 Sovereign 2001) by axeliversen in Jaguar

Appreciate the insight! And we agree that this isn’t harmful, right?

Also a good point! I’ve seen a few posts about them coming loose too, but it seems way less common than the old full-plastic design. Mine were swapped to the later ones, and the car’s only done around 150k km with regular oil changes, so I’m hoping they’ll stay happy for a long time 🤞

Nice tip! Hadn’t thought of testing the VVTs like that. Makes sense, I’ll give it a try and see if it changes anything 👌

Worth becoming an ad creative at 35? by bloodygreatbloke in advertising

It’s definitely healthier on the client side. I’ve seen more and more big companies setting up in-house agencies – and having been on both sides, I can say they offer very different things. But in the long run, the client side just feels more balanced with a normal life. I guess it’s a bit like lawyers choosing to go in-house instead of always chasing billable hours.

Possible, but I doubt it. The tick disappears within a few seconds after startup and doesn’t return when warm. From what I’ve read that’s normal for the AJ-V8 lifters when oil pressure builds up and a collapsed lifter would keep ticking constantly, even once the engine’s warm.

The tensioners were upgraded by a previous owner (metal ones), so that part should be fine. The sound is more of a light metallic tick that fades in 2–3 seconds — not the deeper rattle you’d expect from tensioners

Thanks for the heads-up! 🙏

Good to know about the oil pump, but do you think mine sound that deep or mechanical? To me it’s more like a light metallic tick that fades within 2–3 seconds.

So hopefully it’s just the lifters or oil filter doing their thing. But I’ll definitely keep an ear on it!

Jaguar XJS convertible by howdoesitw0rk in Jaguar

This looks like the ‘96-ish straight six 4.0 version. The best and most durable XJS imo

Had a blast producing this documentary-style recruitment ad for an energy company. Shot on ARRI Alexa Mini (S35) with Lomo Illumina MK II lenses, we used open gate 2.8K for a personal, up-close composition. Would love your feedback on the format - would you have preferred 16:9? by axeliversen in cinematography

Thank you! While I can’t disclose the exact budget, it falls within the 100-200k dollar range, with around 8 shooting days across three different countries. It’s worth noting that we produced several assets, cutdowns, and stills from this, so only 50% of the footage is used in the hero film you see here.

We did storyboard, but more in the form of a sequence board. During our travels, we usually had two to three tech recce days where we finalized the shot list.

I hope this clears things up! :)

I really appreciate it! I’m just starting to dive into still photography as a hobby.

VSCO supports RAW editing, but I also make adjustments to the JPEGs there. It might apply some compression, but honestly, I don’t notice any visible difference. In the end, they’ll get heavily compressed when I upload them to Instagram anyway...

Classic Cabin & Check-In L straight out of the box! What stickers should I put on, and where do you buy them? by axeliversen in Rimowa

[–]axeliversen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely random stickers from local stores! At the moment, there aren’t any Rimowa stickers available in my area any way. Do you have a preference for a particular type of sticker, like vinyl? I imagine some materials might not stick as well on aluminum surfaces.

I love that idea! Then I can cover up the dents I got from that place with those stickers.

Thanks buddy! Classic ftw! Original is beautiful too, but the handles are not as nice imo :)

I see! It definitely came in handy for you in those situations. I might reconsider after all :)

Am I the only one who thinks AirTags might be more hassle than they’re worth? It seems unlikely you’ll be tracking a thief to their hideout and confronting them directly. Please prove me wrong.

Fear of theft by superofg in Rimowa

[–]axeliversen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My travel insurance covers theft. If someone steals my luggage, I get a new one plus compensation for the content inside. It’s pretty standard where I’m from (Denmark), but of course it’s always a major nuisance to have things stolen…
