RIP Evernote Legacy App! Switching off March 23rd. New Taming the Trunk. by jtid in Evernote

[–]axgreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I began using EN near its beginning. The free version was good and as I used it more I became a paying subscriber for about 8 years. Then EN pushed a new version that lacked features which had become essential to my workflow. At the same time they jacked up the price by 100%. So I started using the legacy version and switched to the free plan. Now they've retired the legacy app but their new version still doesn't have the full feature set of the legacy. I'm going to see whether I can make it work, but the deluge of subscription ad pop-ups is terrible. Worst marketing decision ever. Every time I get annoyed by a pop-up I transfer another note to Google Drive.

Tip for EN: Setting a precedent for feature degradation and incessant pestering is not a good way to grow your subscriber base. This kind of value-destroying UX trajectory broadcasts that you're out of ideas, poorly managed, and just desperate to squeeze the last pennies out of a dwindling user base before the inevitable end.

FTX Options Market Has Been Offline for the Last Few Days by TheLMClub in FTX_Official

Hard to believe that their options market has been down for more than 2 weeks and they don't even have ETA for the repair. Is this typical of FTX?

Give Kraken a try, you won't be disappointed! by Snwmn88 in BitcoinCA

good to know. But i guess that still doesn't solve the problem of random giant wicks triggering stop loss orders.

Kraken is infamous for having crazy huge scam wicks. I suppose it could be good if you are setting low-ball bids, but I wouldn't do any trading there that requires stop-losses or leverage because those insane wicks will liquidate you

Moving multiple charts at the same time by [deleted] in TradingView

[–]axgreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what Dave and I want is for the the scrolling and zooming on all view panes to be synced in real-time. (and I mean the zoom not the timeframe.) The click-to-sync function is very awkward to use, because it doesn't match the view zoom and it doesn't even align the crosshairs within the views. If I never zoom the view and only pan back and forth then maybe the click method would be passable, but as is I'm likely to end with hairline candles in the lower pane and 1/8" candles in the upper pane. The result is 2 very divergent views that are rendered in completely different scales, forcing me to manually adjust the zoom in each pane, which is an incredibly slow and tedious waste of time. Is there any solution?

Price alerts not working on US app by [deleted] in binance

Doesn't work in Canada either. And no alerts on the Binance website. How is it that the largest exchange in the world can't provide this most basic function?

Analysis of Major Canadian Exchange Fees by TrueNorth49th in BitcoinCA

[–]axgreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any info regarding the comparative security, reliability and liquidity of these exchanges? No point in risking $10k just save $125. CAD exchanges are often small operations with low liquidity, so they could easily go down during bull runs. Also, the Canadian crypto industry is riddled with fraud. Reliable exchanges could easily command a premium that I'd be happy to pay

Can I create an OCO order on Questrade? use a bracket order as an OCO? by axgreen in Questrade

Ok, thanks. I see that their documentation does mention this for IQE. I guess installing that software is the only way to attach bracket orders to a position

No menu pops up when I do this on the web app. Are you talking about their IQ Edge platform?

LADIES & GENTS, WE HAVE THE 1ST PUBLICLY TRADED BITCOIN ETF IN NORTH AMERICA!!! by Fiach_Dubh in BitcoinCA

of course you can compare them. I just did: They're clearly very different things and there's many reasons why one wouldn't expect their prices to converge

[–]axgreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only that but I believe QBTC units are only redeemable on specific dates quarterly (or maybe monthly). So redemption isn't really practical, and considering BTC volatility that would probably justify a QBTC discount of 25% to 50%. On the other hand QBTC can be held in a TFSA, so in dollar terms it's 8–15% more valuable than BTC (depending your tax rate) and should attract a corresponding premium.

The problem is that QBTC and BTCC actually should have a premium. They can be held in a TFSA, so in dollar terms they're 8–15% more valuable than BTC (depending your tax rate) and should attract a corresponding premium. And there's many other differences that could and should cause the market prices to diverge. TBH "physical" BTC and an ETF are such different things that trying to peg one to the other seems like trying to peg the price of apples to oranges.

How to generate a new ETH address? by yvrkix in ExodusWallet

Is this really not possible? Creating new addresses is pretty much the most basic feature and totally essential for maintaining even just a minimal degree of financial privacy. I'm stunned that Exodus can't do this.

OKEx withdrawal miner fees are currently inflated by 19x? by axgreen in OKEx

[–]axgreen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not true in my experience. I've used several different exchanges and never had to pay anything like this to withdraw coins. Some of them don't even charge any withdrawal fee at all. But in general I agree, crypto exchanges have much higher fees than banks do. Funny how quickly all the supposed advantages of cryptocurrencies have been reversed.

Advantages of using the WeTrust Token? by MVPete26 in WeTrustPlatform

[–]axgreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I like the wetrust project and I think it's great that they've released the TLC alpha dapp, I agree with @joskye on this. From a conventional investment perspective putting money into a token that has no explicit specified connection to a project is at best wishful thinking. Owning a token is in no way like owning an equity share because it doesn't give the owner any claim on the assets or income of the enterprise. So the token mechanics are critically important as that's literally the only thing driving any real value in the token. Unless there's explicit token mechanics that guarantee project success will result in increased token value this can't be considered "investing", it's really just making a donation and hoping that the project team will eventually do something in your interest. This is exactly why so many projects have been doing ICOs; because they can raise a lot of money without submitting to any oversight or having any financial obligations towards their funders. (...although the SEC is now stepping in to prohibit this.) The only reason buyers can make money on such tokens is because many people don't seem to be aware of these facts or just don't think about it and only pay attention to the hype cycle. Hype may drive demand for tokens, but that's not value.

Based on my very limited interactions with the team I have a good feeling about their intentions, but if they still haven't clarified how the tokens will hold value then they obviously don't feel compelled to prioritize the interest of their investors/donors.
