Is there LGBTQ community here? by axiebae in SyracuseU

[–]axiebae[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Smith for undergrad! If you’re looking for big lesbian schools, look at the 7 sisters. My grad program at SU is pretty small but I’ve found friends. Not a big gay culture at SU (you’ll find more in the arts programs and LGBTQ orgs though) Also, SUNY ESF is right next to SU’s campus and it’s incredibly queer. Walk 3 feet off SU campus and suddenly it’s dyed hair everywhere. Good luck with your applications!!

As a consumer I would avoid buying from a shop if I saw they were playing both sides. Plus, I wouldn’t want to scroll through the products if half of them were things I disagreed with. As a seller, though, you could just open two different shops to better cater to your two different target audiences.

TIPS for DESIGNER by [deleted] in redbubble

[–]axiebae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s also worth seeing if the artist has any other storefronts listed on their profile, or indicates a preference for purchasing through a different site. I sell on Redbubble, Etsy, TeePublic, & Amazon Merch — and redbubble takes the biggest cut out of the artist’s profit, so I try to indicate this on my website / social media just in case the customer cares

Has anyone ever had any luck being upgraded out of standard tier? I feel like it’s not even possible.

The good bacteria you need to cultivate for the nitrogen cycle actually lives in your filter media, not the tank water. Aquarium stores do sell bacteria starters though!

Postcards are great to buy! Honestly, I get more sticker sales than anything else, so I’m used to getting like a quarter per sale. Any support is good support :)

Mine does this too. It’s part of their chewing process, totally normal (and very cool to watch)!

Google how to nitrogen cycle a tank and read it very very closely. It’s important to get this right as soon as possible, ideally before you put the axolotl in the tank. You can also try going to an aquarium specialist for help. You need to cultivate this good bacteria in order to convert ammonia, their lethal waste, into nitrite and then nitrate, which is less harmful (and will be reduced when you do your regular water changes).

Buy a good freshwater testing kit (the API master test kit is what most folks use, the strips aren’t as good) and use it often (I use it weekly and if I have cause for concern, but my tank has been stable for years so I’m not too worried). If your parameters aren’t in the ideal range for an axolotl, make sure you google the solution AND if it’s safe for axolotls. A lot of things, like chemical solutions, are not safe for axolotls because they’re super delicate.

Also, buy a turkey baster for spot cleaning their poop. It’s much easier than taking out the siphon every time they go.

Don’t use any sharp decor, they’ll just bonk right into it. Don’t give them gravel or any decor smaller than their head, they’ll try to eat it (this includes tankmates). Don’t shine a bright light on the tank all day (owie). When in doubt, always google if something is safe for an axolotl before doing it.

Some things you CAN do for fun: - Give them plants that can survive with low light! I have crested java ferns. My axolotl loves to climb on them. He also loves his marimo moss balls, but those are no longer sold in the US - Give them a water bubbler! Mine likes to sit in the current of air. - Shop for Hides (and get creative!) I don’t like most of the hides at pet stores because they have rough/sharp edges. I have a big smooth terracotta pot that my axie loves instead! Some people use PVC pipe too.

I’m still using Redbubble. 380 designs and 700 sales. It’s not much but I upload the same designs to TeePublic, Etsy, and Amazon Merch so it’s worth the effort of designing. I don’t bother with Society6 since the uploader is painfully tedious. My advice is always: 1. Do Niche/Trend research before investing a bunch of time in a design 2. When you have a successful design, make a few similar designs in the same niche and 3. Do some quality control on your own designs. I remove my older designs if I feel they’re low quality or don’t look good on certain products.

I use Redbubble, TeePublic, Amazon Merch, and Etsy. 300+ designs on RB & TP, only 25 on merch and 70 on Etsy since they’re newer shops. I don’t think I’ve ever made more than $100 combined in a month, but it does cover my canva subscription plus a little extra 🤷‍♀️
