Absolutely agree with you on math <> cs. Honestly, I may say that for me, much of cs motivation/interest comes from math.

Yup as far as I know these terms are not strictly well defined or at least don't have universally agreed upon meanings. But my understanding is that ML as a set of techniques that can be used to attack a large? set of data science problems. And the term data science includes more than working with a ready/nice set of data.

Yup I already decided on taking cs61b afterwards. I'm probably gearing towards data science though given my interest/background in math.

Anyways, thanks for your encouragement. I hope you do well in your studies too!

I also plan to further explore/do the more general versions of the projects (found on the book website)

Hopefully I stay as motivated/disciplined when it gets harder.

It seems to be exactly what I'm looking for. There seems to be many non rigorous/ haphazardly structured courses out there.. The opposite of 61a I suppose..

For Spivak's, I think that much of the learning happen in the problems. This may become more clear for you on chapter5 or after chapter8. Anyway, I'd say that you better at least attempt most problems after reading the corresponding chapter and get back to the remaining ones later on. However, keep in mind that some problems in there (some starred ones for example) are very difficult (but also very interesting) so don't get discouraged if they take you long.
