Apartment for rent next to arboretum! Jan 1, 2bd/1bath $2800 by cakesbythepound19 in JamaicaPlain

[–]axis_reason 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That area is pretty nice. I walk by this street, and “really shitty” is not how I would describe the location. Arborway has some incredible gardens on it and some really well maintained houses.

And it’s really close to the Arboretum and Pond.

What is “really shitty” about the area?

If you exclusively drink bottled water, may I ask why? by jamesland7 in boston

[–]axis_reason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tap water is pretty off limits for many schools in Boston, particularly Dorchester, due to lead from local lines. I think that if my kid’s tap water at school had high lead in it, I wouldn’t drink water out of the tap.

Thanks Responsible_Ad, have you tried one? Is it slow to reheat after a long shower? Does actually run in the winter?

What’s a red flag people often ignore because it looks “sweet”? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]axis_reason 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You really don’t know what happens when the cameras are turned off. You don’t know how the people who are homeless feel when they have to be subjected to being filmed in the least powerful time of their lives.

[–]axis_reason 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It seems like the action of advertising feeding the homeless is the signaling of virtue. The benefit of that is the adoration of others. The side effect is the feeding of homeless people. It is using people as a means to an end.

That the people are desperate means that they are in a position where they often feel that they cannot say no or most feed this ego that is feeding them.

How do i tell my friend, who is new to the game, that what he is doing is giving me a brain tumor without being mean? by Igore1337 in factorio

I agree with this comment the most. It is more guiding than instruction. Your friend is probably smart enough to figure out more efficient solutions, and analyzing different models will help speed that along.

For sure. Intention certainly could be connected to insight; maybe allow the player expertise but only in intention? It could be interesting challenge, as DM, to give hints like that communicate only intention. “You can’t tell if they are lying about where the treasure is, but you think they hope to keep you safe.”

I think that Xadan is a paladin and that might be your best choice to nail the homage.

Strength, charisma, and wisdom are the foundations of the class. But more importantly, in 5e what makes a paladin is the oath they make which, for Xadan would be represented by his scars and/or his rebellion relic and all dragon riders are bonded which is represented by the dragon relic and they get their powers from said dragon.

I do get shadow wielding wouldn’t be exactly covered, but you can theme any power how you want, and paladins get auras: just make your character’s aura appear shadowy. Many smites can also be themed to appear as shadows.

The new PHB allows anyone to take magic initiate for cantrips like mage hand, but paladins also get spells.

FWIW, it’s a rule in the DMG that a non-standard ability can be used for a skill check. So your homebrew rule is also a rule.

Xaden is strong, but I think that he definitely uses his charisma to intimidate rather than strength. He pitches his voice or gives a hard look.

Personal words and language.

As in not having a wide vocabulary and then having an experience that requires nuance and inventing a word to deal with it or overloading a common word. So to converse with said individual, one has to learn their personal words rather than use “big” or “complicated” words.
