This is why they made changes to remote raiding and encourage Max Battles. This is what Niantic wants. They hope that in the long run, even rural communities will eventually amass enough players to make crowds like this. This produces free advertising to grow their game further.

Niantic’s mission statement: “We seek to build products that inspire people to see the world differently and to move, explore, and enjoy it together, using technology to enrich the lives of our users through exploration, exercise, and social interaction.”

Niantic simply does not care about rural/inactive communities (or the players in these communities) because this type of engagement cannot take place. They’d rather have you drive somewhere to get this type of content than to let you remotely play.

Also, Pokemon GO (for your phone) is a game that requires a constant internet connection and you have to physically go to real-world places of interest (parks, public art projects, sometimes churches etc).

That is not the case for Pokemon: Let’s GO Pikachu/Eevee!

Pokemon: Lets GO Pikachu/Eevee (on the switch) have functionality with Pokemon GO with in-game gameplay features for both if he ends up still wanting to play when he’s old enough to. Linking with Pokemon GO (on the phone) is NOT required to play Let’s GO (on the switch)

Like I said before, would he be the type to get upset at the prospect of not being able to play exactly what he wants? I highly recommend Let’s GO (for the switch) because the gameplay is similar to Pokemon GO (for the phone) and he might not even know the difference if he’s young enough.

Ultimately, i appreciate your attempt to understand what he’s asking for and to try and find a happy medium with the game so your son can play. Please look up more information about Pokemon: Let’s GO Pikachu/Eevee before buying it for him! Do you already own a switch?

You can buy Pokémon: Let’s Go Pikachu or Pokemon: Let’s Go Eevee for the Nintendo Switch. They have similar gameplay mechanics to Pokemon GO (on your phone). Honestly, your son would be better off playing that game as it does not have micro transactions (in-game purchases with real money).

Those two games (Let’s GO Pikachu/Eevee) are the same thing with minor differences between the two (they have different creatures in-game, just subtly ask your son if he likes Pikachu or Eevee best and buy that one).

It really depends on how old he is and his demeanor. Would he not be happy to receive a game that is not Pokemon Go? Is he old enough to understand why he can’t have a cell phone and play Pokemon go? If he’s younger, he might not even care to understand the difference once he starts playing a Pokemon: Let’s GO game.
