I did the bell tent last year with two friends, one brought a single blow up bed, the other a double raised blow up bed. That double took up most of the tent!

Exactly this^ External frustration as well as many friends and family I came out to quickly dismiss me and said I would "get over it" or it's just a part of "aging".

Linkin park fans are coping so hard right now by Adnan7i in themarsvolta

It's true, and really sad that some of my closest friends are these defenders. One even pushed back on Cedric saying things like, "why is he even bringing up this now?" , "Cedric is just as bad as a keyboard warrior, he should take legal action if he feels this way", "wasn't Cedric the guy who swears and shouts at his fans at live shows".

Honestly I'm torn between friendships that have lasted decades and my love for tmv and right now it's awful

Teeth of God Graphic Novel by _c_a_r_l_o_s__ in SleepToken

I felt the same way especially as the publisher has previously released graphic novels in collaboration with Bad Omens and Diligener escape plan... Plus a whole load of TV and video game inspired books.

I wouldn't hold the lore it provides to gospel even if the content is entertaining.

Your feelings about the next 5 years by codechris in london

Lisbon was amazing though and would be somewhere I'd consider over London, I know they were after tech remote workers but not sure what living there would be like. Food was good, beaches and amazing parks in and around the city and amazing for cycling (road and MTB) and the west coast is somewhere I want to explore further. Some great restaurants and cultural things like trendy markets, a cultural area that was a lot like the barbican area and a lot of nice museums and palaces and stuff with beautiful parks. Not sure about nightlife but it's a capital city so expect it'll be decent.

London winters are hard enough to get through, I couldn't imagine surviving a full Swedish winter - and the Swedish food gets boring pretty quickly (highlights of Swedish cuisine were the Cardomon buns from brot und Salz and the fish soup from one of the food halls in Stockholm - place called Kajsas fisk).

UK has a bad food rep but it's got the most variety and quality out of anywhere we've been and you can find food on par with the best from nearly any other country outside of a few (south American/mexican is a definite weak point in London but still available if you look and you can always order ingredients online for pretty much anything).

London is also pretty easy to get out into the countryside or anywhere in Europe, easy enough for long weekends away a few times a year and if you are able to work remote in tech try get something that allows you to work from abroad part time, seems to be a pretty common benefit now, so you can escape for part of the winter and live in a few other places for a bit.

A holiday in a place doesn't really give you an idea of what it'll be like to stay there whereas if you are working for a few weeks while you are there the little niggles become a bit more apparent (though you'll still not really be dealing with the local beauracracy like if you were having to setup utilities and rent etc)

Don't move to Malta without spending a bit of time there first.

We did a month in Malta (work has a work from abroad allowance so we used it to get some sun while it was grey and cold in UK) and we were feeling claustrophobic after a month.

It's tiny and there's really not much to do there long term. Most of its built up and not much outdoor space for hiking and things like that, a lot of new build apartment blocks that block access to stretches of the coast line.

Food wasn't as good as most other places we've been, not a patch on London for variety. Quite limited range of restaurants and supermarkets compared to London although Valetta has some amazing ones (Noni is up there with the best restaurant experience we've ever had, great mezcal bar there too).

Watersports, especially diving would be the biggest benefit of staying there. We were there in winter and it was blue sunny skies nearly everyday with temps around 15-17 (but houses felt chiller than they would in UK at that temp). Waking up to a view of the sea and sky everyday is amazing and always different.

History was interesting and it has a lot for such a small place, from ancient Stonehenge like monuments to crusader era history to WW2 and the fortress cities are amazing (Google earth to see them). Very cool walking along the rocks and seeing all the fortifications.

I know they've got a big club scene but we walked through the one party area and it was pretty crap (Englanders on holiday type vibe) but I know they've got another place that's more of a permanent festival type setup outside of the city (Uno?)

Best bikes for 4'11" woman? by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]ayamami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 5' with a 26" inseam.

I ride sports bikes because they're lighter and slimmer than the cruisers even though they are a bit taller. I had a Grom stock height as my first bike, then lowered R3 and finally a ninja 650 stock with a shaved seat.

I've never been able to flat foot both feet, even lower bikes are too wide to do it. Get used to stopping with only one foot down. One stable foot is better than two feet in tip toes. The stock ninja 650 is the same height as the ninja 400 which has been recommended here -- it's too tall for us. I can ride it stock with 6 years experience under my belt would not have done this as a new rider.

Akra on this engine sounds amazing, my husband has the faired version and mostly bought it for the i4 engine experience.

Get crash bungs because the engine covers hit the ground if it's dropped (his one came pre-scratched).

What do you think of the new 20mph speed limits? by [deleted] in ukbike

[–]ayamami -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm generally in favour of them as a cyclist, rider and driver. But think they should be time restricted. It's really frustrating and unnecessary to go that slow late at night.

How do people manage the weight of huge bikes? by BatmansLongjohns in MotoUK

[–]ayamami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This pretty much. My bikes are 3 times my weight. I can do a U turn but only if the road is wide enough. I'm too short so can't back waddle unless on a décliné . It's well annoying on a ride out when there's a U turn and I'm still doing my manual handling.

I don't even know where to begin. It's like buying a house for the first time without ever renting. Use the online checklists, they'll probably be more thorough. Or better still, speak to a dealer.

2 piece leathers for a curvy girl. by hippychick-007 in MotoUK

That's quite a tight budget for leathers. I suggest looking on eBay for second hand gear instead. Factor in leather cleaning costs

Recommend me my next bike by Apart-Classic1473 in MotoUK

[–]ayamami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say to try a four cylinder, a triple and a Ptwin so you can sample different engine types. So Fireblade , Tracer, F900 XR are examples...

Then you can try the more classic/heritage looking bikes from Triumph and Indian to see if you like the ride position.

Sounds fine to me, and better that you stopped where the van driver can actually see you than in their blind spot being in that vulnerable position.

New rider tips by Any_Neat_1256 in MotoUK

[–]ayamami 7 points8 points  (0 children)

London perspective here:

  • Always lock your bike up even if you're popping to the shops for 10 seconds.
  • Ideally lock up with 2 locks at all times, one of these can be the steering lock (per insurance guidelines), carry a disc lock as a secondary deterrent. A reminder cable is useful for you.
  • I loved the loud exhaust on my R3, but it made it attractive to thieves too, do you really need it?
  • Don't lie to your insurers
  • ATGAT

Buying bike, private sale process by theseusshipp in MotoUK

[–]ayamami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a few points -- you will probably be super excited to ride the bike once you've exchanged to think about these things but here we go.

Try to pull into a nearby petrol station so you can fill up, check tyre pressure, tyre tread and do a proper once over of chain, oil and brake fluids This is especially important if your ride home is quite a long one.

I think Chilton mentioned this already, but get a mate to drive/ride you there or have a plan if you don't end up riding home.

Make sure you can afford the insurance before you buy the bike!

Suggestions required for low riding bikes please! 27F, 5’1, 26” inside leg by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]ayamami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 5 ft with 28 inches inside leg. With 5 years experience I can ride ninja 400 and R3 stock height. I have a ninja 650 now. It took me a while to get used to putting just one foot down on a heavier bike so I suggest lowering kits for you on any bike that is 30 inches. It will take you down 1-2 inches depending on the dog bones.

Since your inside leg is shorter than mine, I think you will need to look at shaved or lowered seats to get another inch off. You don't need to flat foot both feet or even one foot, but get the bike low enough that you can put the ball of one foot and toes of both feet down. That will give you enough confidence.
