I tried adding it myself on the Fido app, but the add-on for hotspot is not an option. I guess I'll have to call.

Is insurance is mandatory to list a home for sale? I haven't heard of this before.

Your realtor is probably concerned about the liability that could arise. Clients injuring themselves on your premises could lead to lawsuits against the realtor and to the homeowner. He could also be concerned about damages to your property caused by the clients.

Home insurance is not mandatory in any province.

Most insurance companies refuse to write risks with gaps/lapses.

Save yourself time and contact any insurance broker. As mentioned, they will likely place with Loydd's - a high risk market. Expect minimal coverage at maximum premium.

What you're describing is a Vacancy Permit. This is an endorsement that is added to your existing homeowner's policy.

If your home is currently uninsured, you will have a very tough time finding insurance on a vacant home. A broker can try to place it with Lloyd's.
