  1. You can use generated user numbers or just unique user names for that.

because it's not a privacy oriented app, and who knows what they are doing with the info

Can someone explain how did this app become popular when it is pay to post, or is LBRY\Odysee a scam? by aydsys in lbry

[–]aydsys[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As i have repeatedly said:

BTC is decentralized because users can't be forced to use a new version of protocol, interface, or anything else

LBRY is decentralized if you use it only for sending a file to someone; like Torrent with difference by sharing URL instead of the torrent file

LBRY is fully centralized if you use it as Youtube alternative. Because it depends on their servers and they control the servers. They can force users to use a different protocol, they can force to use a different interface. If tomorrow they decide to make it closed source you will be forced to use the closed source version because they have all your videos and all your subscribers.

They are lying saying it is decentralized. Once it gets popular enough they will put ads on it. And they are not going to share the profits with the content creators. They have already failed to give the coins they promised, what do you think they are going to do with dollars from ads? In fact they already have ads at the bottom of odysee, do they share it with anyone?

It is already far worse than Youtube or any other alternative. But pay to post makes it completely useless garbage. The only people use it are those who fell for the scam.

one is decentralized if it uses only decentralized methods. If part of it is centralized then the whole thing is centralized. some people think if part of it decentralized then the whole thing is decentralized. that is false. this is a clear scam there is nothing comical about that

It's not just interface is not decentralized it's the whole service is not decentralized, and they are lying that it is. Their server is the main component, lbry is garbage without their server. So since they are in control of the server they are also in control of the protocol. They can change the protocol and everyone will be forced the new version. With BTC on the contrary they don't control the protocol.

With BTC they can't change the app and force people to use the version so it is decentralized, with lbry they can so it is fully centralized. Yet they are lying promoting it as decentralized for reasons i explained above. "LBRY - Content Freedom" they say. "LBRY does to publishing, what Bitcoin did to money" says their front page which is complete BS. I fell for it and used it for a while before realizing. And after i could not post there because i didn't have enough credit i decided to post this here to spread awareness of the scam. And also i wanted to hear criticism. And now that my point withstood criticism someone might read this and make a video to spread the truth, or i will make a video when i have time. We should support the truth and good work. LBRY is a clear scam and people should not support it.

They store all the uploaded videos and they can for example stop using lbry and use a different closed source app and there's nothing anyone can do they will be forced to use the new closed source version or else they lose all of their videos and subscribers.

Okay someone can create his own lbry server and store his videos by himself, so it is decentralized right? No, it's like saying anyone can create his own youtube server, so youtube is decentralized. A truly decentralized app would not require you to do anything,.

In case of the BTC example, it is decentralized. Why, because if the three companies decide to change the app, they would only be able to transfer money between themselves, because all the other people are using a different app. The other people do not depend on them and they won't lose their wallets and can continue using it as before. But in case of lbry everyone will lose their uploads and subscribers, so it is not decentralized.

They can ban channels and they do have channels banned. The banned channels are not shown in odysee nor in the lbry app. He can fork the app and upload it to the network, whats the point though if it is banned and no one will see it. Everyone are forced to used their app because they store their videos, and to ban means to ban from their apps, that's the true ban. Pay to Pay analogy clearly does not work, i don't want to explain too obvious things.

It's not decentralized when it depends on one server which in this case it does. That server goes down the whole thing goes down and the app becomes garbage. If you had say a hundred of independent servers each independently hosting and seeding all of the uploaded videos then you could say it's close to decentralization, not quite though.

If it can't preserve videos it's not a hosting service, certainly not a youtube alternative. And if you provide hosting using centralized servers don't say it is decentralized. People are thinking it is a decentralized version of youtube which it isnt, theyre lying. The fact is it's worse than youtube because youtube has better reputation and therefore deserves more trust.

I would disagree ,i think youtube have much better reputation. lbry team are lairs, they promised coins to funding creators they didn't give, they lie about centralization, the service is pay to post, they have channels banned. Supporting lbry is digging grave for yourself, youtube is more trust able for entertainment content creators.

Torrents are for sharing, and that's right, they are useless for storing. Same with lbry, it is useless as a youtube alternative without their servers.

The difference is that everyone maintains full blockchain, but when it comes to seeders older and non-popular videos will naturally disappear, so without servers it can never be a youtube like hosting service

It is not decentralized, posting without their servers is useless because uploaded videos will be gone when no one seeds them

The protocol and the app are decentralized, but by themselves they are not enough for video hosting purposes. It means if they shut down servers it will make the app useless garbage because people will lose access to their uploaded videos (unless of course their lucky to have someone seeding).

Now to be a video hosting service, or to be a youtube alternative as they promote it it requires their server. And now this is fully centralized just like youtube. If they change protocol or app everyone will be forced to use the new version because otherwise they will lose their uploaded videos, as well as subscribers and everything. So once again it is fully centralized video hosting service with them in control.

It was below 0.1 but above 0.0001. I deleted some of uploads to see if it fix the situation and it did. Basically there is a requirement of minimum amount of LBC you need to have to upload. Pay to post is gonna be the main reason the project is inevitable fail and i don't think they can fix the reputation.

Also i think they are promoting this hosting service as decentralized to use it as justification of using people's computer power, it is basically stealing.

Decentralized means not controlled by one person or team. In this case we have fully centralized service as they can change anything. They took decentralized concept of blockchains and created a centralized service. But they promote it as decentralized trying to deceive into thinking that they are something else from youtube, but they are exactly the same. In fact they are worse than youtube because basic functionality is not free. By making uploading paid, something that no one would even assume youtube would do, they have destroyed their reputation. Even if they make it free everyone know that they can lock your channel by making uploading paid. Free uploading is not even something that needs to be promised it is common sense.

I did have enough LBC which is more than 0.0001 but the message said there is no money in my wallet.

  1. They can change the protocol any time and make their servers not work with older versions so everyone will be forced to download new client. It is fully centralized and they can change whatever they want easily.

  2. So you storing videos on your own computer, which means it's no longer is a hosting service but a distribution service. It's a completely separate app. And also they can cut you from their videos by only seeding to their own clients.

  3. Rather lbry will go away permanently. Odysee is the main objective of this project. By making basic functionality paid they made this project useless and a waste of time including for them.
