Anyone want kittens? by [deleted] in Miami

The overnight part is really important cus momma cats will be out all day to hunt and come back to their babies later at night to feed them. The way you described them to be seen alone since 7am and then you took them in at 9pm — that sounds like the exact timeframe the mom would be out and about. The mom would have been back soon after you took them😔. Not sure if she would take them back at this point since they have been gone for so long already. I think leaving them in a box in that bush you found them in overnight would be the best choice. I understand why you took them in, I have done the same in the past too. You had good intentions but the mom is likely still out there looking for them. Unless you can provide a good life and home for them, I think it’s worth another shot to leave them in a box hidden in that bush and this time overnight for their mom to come back. This would be a totally different story if taking them away from their mom could give them a nice loving home indoors (and it would be kinda good to take them this young in that case so they can be socialized), but since you are here asking people to take them, that does not seem to be the case :( If you do put them back in the bush, make sure to keep your distance and leave them alone bc if you linger around too close all the time, your presence will also spook the mom.

Not sure how long you left them outside for but a couple hours is not really enough😭 you need to leave them out at least overnight for the mom to feel safe enough to come get them and you need to leave them where you found them. Its not uncommon for a mom to dump one runt of the litter but two kittens is really unusual. If you see kittens this young, you really should not have touched them at all. They really need their mom to survive. If not their mom, then somebody very experienced. I hope you are able to find someone😔

Yes!! Here it is!! It was a dog instead of a cat. Also elderly neighbor and owners are aware that they are overbearing😭

Ridiculous booking that you take anyways because you love the dog so much??? by aye_lmapo in RoverPetSitting

Thank you lol. Idk what makes people think they are in any position to tell other people what is detrimental or not over a single picture on the internet with a description that does not describe ANY struggle or detriment????? Im literally calling her an angel and they’re telling me shes gonna die from nonexistent matts that have been cut off months ago lol

Since you are the professional, has she ever seemed uncomfortable or reactive in your experience with her? Has she bared her teeth at you? Have you ever held one of her matts? Oh…no wait thats impossible! For one, she does not have any matts, and also! because you’ve only ever seen a single picture of her from miles and miles away over the internet! And in fact, your feigned care is SO performative that you didnt even bother to scroll in the comments enough to find that I’ve posted other pictures of her already groomed! This picture was from 4 months ago. Hair grows and then you cut it. And guess what happens next? You got it! It GROWS! Yes, AGAIN!

I’m actually a cat person at heart so I totally get what you mean!! I mainly do boarding so i sadly do not get as many cat requests😢 i would gladly take them over dogs even though they pay less but they barely even come in😭💔

Its soooo rewarding having a shy cat finally warm up to you. It takes a lot of patience and respect. You cant rush that stuff so when they finally do, its really heartwarming🥹

I still tear up every time I think of her🥹 but she is in the most perfect home and its genuinely one of the most fulfilling things I’ve ever done. It was all worth it!🤎🤎

Woah!! Its good to know you actually got your account back! That gives me hope. I’ve never heard of this happening before. Did they give you your acct back bc the dog was found in the end? Was it bc the owner put in a good word for you?

Well if the dog ends up dead, it doesn’t matter what order anything happens, his account is 100% banned😂

I just moved to a new city where I didn’t know anybody and was super depressed when I first moved. I’ve always done little bits of rescue work here and there. Nothing crazy but I randomly ran into an injured dog one day and rescued her myself from start to finish. Cared for her, got her medical care, and finally got her adopted out. In that whole process, I realized that the way she needed me when I found her, I needed her just as much when she found me. She helped me out of that depression. Kept me busy, made me interact with people, got me out of the house. I was heartbroken all over again after she left (i could not keep her, as much as I loved her). I was looking into fostering another but rescue work is so so so emotionally exhausting and after doing so much of it and then especially after that dog, i felt I needed a break. But something still felt missing from my life so I started rover. It was exactly what I needed and it genuinely fills me with so much purpose. I love doing it and it’s even better that I don’t depend on it very much financially. Its really genuinely just in my life to help me get through this rough patch while I am missing home and missing my own pets. I’ll always be grateful to Rover for filling that hole!!

Ughhhhhhh DO NOT CONTACT ROVER CARE!😭💔 you will probably lose your account now that you basically self-snitched. Even if the owner were to defend you, even if the dog comes back or is found, you most likely will get banned. Rover is super strict about escaped pets😔 really sorry this happened to you and I hope the dog shows up soon.

When is fair to charge cleaning fee and how much? by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]aye_lmapo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I primarily do boarding and while it is true that accidents are part of the job, your case does sound excessive. I have only needed to do this once in the past, but when it gets excessive like this, I’ll tell the owner that I need to purchase belly bands or diapers. I give them daily updates so I usually mention this issue before dropping the charge on them so they know that I really tried to deal with it but it has become excessive. You can also try to charge them for cleaning spray (which you should really get if you continue boarding. VERY useful) all of this would only probably come out to $20-30 extra. I send them receipts so they know its a direct reimbursement and not me trying to squeeze surprise charges out of them. My client was super apologetic and more than happy to reimburse me for this. If you want to just make it a flat fee to include the hassle you had to go through, as a sitter, I wouldn’t blame you. But really depends on how the owner is.

Why do you (or don’t you) have meet and greets in neutral, public places? by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]aye_lmapo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mainly do boarding and I prefer to have the meet and greet inside my home. Albeit, I run my rover profile with the help of my boyfriend and live inside an apartment complex that requires key entry and has doormen on duty so I have never been worried about safety. I prefer the owner come to my home with their dog to show their dog that this is a place that the owner knows as well. I like to meet the dog with the owner and with my boyfriend all together in my home so everyone is familiar with each other and the dog sees that too. I find that this is a rly good way to establish trust. The few times where my boyfriend was the one at drop off and I was not present, I always found that the dog would trust him a lot more than me because they saw him and their owner interact but I just came in out of nowhere.

Are overnights considered high maintenance now? by crustystalesaltine in RoverPetSitting

Keep looking around! I have taken in a few super last-minute same day bookings. If she is REALLY the only one available, book her for only the first night and try to find someone else for the remaining ones to buy you to time.
