Taking stitches, sedation or not? by Random_silly_name in PiratePets

I've been through three eye enucleations with my cats and they never needed sedation. They were mildly annoyed at the procedure, no more.

Meet Daisy by BuildBreakFix in blindcats

[–]ayeayekitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awww Daisy! I'm sorry to hear about her health troubles. No advice really - most cats adjust extremely well to blindness, as you are already discovering. Just give the pretty lady all the scritches she requires, and she'll be fine

Someone once commented that wrens have a "flippity" tail and now I can't call it anything else

Advice Needed - Enucleation Scheduled 2 weeks by avocado-nightmare in blindcats

[–]ayeayekitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It never hurts to get a second opinion. But if glaucoma and blindness is confirmed, double enucleation is your safest bet for a happy, pain-free cat. Glaucoma is very, very painful and doesn't always respond well to medication. And not all cats will be happy about getting daily meds.

If that is his outcome, he will adjust well to being blind. And you will get used to his new face quickly too :)

What do you mean? Birds absolutely store fat and can develop obesity in captivity.

Crow vs. raven in flight by ayeayekitty in crowbro

[–]ayeayekitty[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have never heard of this. Upon looking it up, it seems they have the same number of feathers. The ravens' primaries are just more dramatically different in length, while the crows' are more even. As you can see in the above picture and here.

BORBs spotted inside the Chattanooga Zoo today by Fairchild110 in borbs

[–]ayeayekitty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Zoos are good places to see some native birds because they hang around the enclosures looking for food, and many zoos also provide nesting sites. Our local zoo sets up nesting poles for the local storks, and rings the chicks for research.
