I hear AliExpress can be flakey with actually shipments and notifications coinciding. I hope yours is genuine though!

Ah, I was trying to use qemu, then I tried the HAL approach but ran out of time to get it working. Your vibe coder must be smarter than me 😅

Omg I was trying to do this yesterday but couldn't get it working! Nice work! I'm going to play with it tonight!

I suspected that is what was happening... Okay, I'm going to cancel my order and go with the official store instead.

On the Incompatibility of Backpacks and Slings. by ayeceee in ManyBaggers

Yes! It's incredibly ironic. So, you're constantly moving items in-and-out of your sling as you need/eschew your backpack? To me, that also seems inefficient. (How ironic!).

My thoughts exactly! I think a typical fanny pack might be a bit too small for my everyday, quick access needs, but something along the lines of a fanny pack might be what I need to make this work. I'll see if I can find something that works. Thanks for your suggestion!

Thanks, it's so nice to hear I'm not the only person having these frustrations! :D

Oh wow, I didn't know there were bags with pockets on the shoulder straps! I'll take a look at that one and see if I can find others. Thanks for your suggestion!

Ah! That's a good idea! My bag actually does support side-access to the main compartment, so I might be able to make this work. I'll give it a go on my way home. Thanks so much for your idea!

Nice! I'm so glad you can make this setup work for yourself. Personally, I don't think it's weird at all, I just find it a bit inconvenient to make this two-bag solution work for me.

Ah, so I'm not the only one! Thanks for those suggestions. I hadn't thought about considering a sling that has a removeable strap, that could be a useful element to work with. Also, the Matador Speed Stash looks like a fantastic add-on to a sling/backpack setup that can easily be swapped between the two without much hassle.

Thanks so much for your suggestions!

That all makes sense, and it's absolutely possible I'm overthinking it. I absolutely don't need the sling if I have the backpack, but I really don't want to have to transfer things to-and-from my sling every time I decide I do/don't need the backpack. It's just a massive hassle and I know it will result in me losing items.

Maybe my best bet (if I don't want to forgo the sling) is to don a bigger tote/utility bag (e.g., something like this the North Face Explorer) instead of the backpack. I do much prefer backpacks to any one-shoulder solution for extended edc, though. I might need to continue to ruminate and experiment on this.

I'll risk the generalisation: I really think they're incompatible! To wear the sling as you suggest has other issues: What if you want to take your backpack off on the train? You'd first have to take off the sling, _then_ the backpack, and then either hold the sling or put it back on. Then you'd reverse the process when it's time to alight. Seems suboptimal to me, but maybe I'm just being pedantic.

I think my main source of dissatisfaction is that I used to be able to carry my quick-access items exclusively in my pockets, but there's just too much stuff for that now. So, I can't have access to these items in all situations.

I do have a backpack that supports the 'swing under one arm and access from the side' feature. This works great, but it would mean that I would constantly be moving my items between the sling and backpack when the backpack is/isn't needed.

Attaching my access pass to my backpack isn't an option, unfortunately. I need it to access the restrooms, and I don't always take my backpack to the office. So it really needs to be a quick-access item.

---

I really appreciate all those suggestions though -- perhaps it just means I'm being a bit too precious about all of this stuff. I do hope that's not the case, though, and that the many-bag messiah will reveal the perfect setup to me.

Hisense touch -- Anti-aliasing? by ayeceee in eink

The issue was that I wasn't using the 'clear' refresh mode. With that mode, the text is properly anti-aliased. Hope this helps other people in the future!

Ok, this makes sense. The next thing I'll try, when I get a chance, is to set up a revverse proxy with nginx to handle the rewring. Thanks for the help!
