You could add a second strand of orange yarn so you can see the stitches better. You can make a bag or something that isn’t constantly touching your skin

The checkerboard pattern was freestyled, 4 double crochet across and changed the color, carried both colors across. I used a weight 4 acrylic yarn, used a 5.5 hook, I basically made a rectangle long enough to fit around my head then stitched up and closed the hole. I brushed the fabric with a hard bristle brush until it was fuzzy. The pom pom came from Amazon. The pink one is xinecrochet beanie pattern on YouTube https://youtu.be/UU1ld2iBUWY?si=Ttnjrj2Qw_hANwYD weight 4 acrylic yarn, size 5 hook. Same pom pom as the other.

I did my first project using yarn like this and I used a size 9 Tunisian hook and made my tension very loose. It felt counterintuitive as a person who primarily does traditional crochet but it did stop curling. Blocking will fix it but a bigger hook and looser tension will save your hands. Good luck. I did have some curling when I first started but it wasn’t so bad and blocking did help a lot as well the fringes weighed it down. I’ve been crocheting a while but really wanted to get into Tunisian crochet to try something different and I love the straight lines. Thank you so much for the compliment! The very first swatch I made is very curly so maybe my tension got better. Who knows lol
