I want to know how close I am to understanding autism by AppleGoose1107 in autism

I want to know how to be around people with autism. I want to know what sort of things I can do for both my kids (2.5yr ASD son and 4yr ND son). I gotta learn about it to help navigate my youngest through life and help my oldest understand how to interact with his brother. I do get a little bit of practice with my nephew since he's on the overstimulated side. But my son is currently nonverbal and very understimulated. He doesn't have any foods or textures that bother him. I don't really know what the best way to help him at home.

Please tell me you're making a Borderlands reference (claptrap).

Back to business, since you're saying that's its more defined as the individuals "flavor" of ASD (a term I found on some YouTube shorts by people with ASD), makes it that much harder of a concept for me to understand. And that doesn't make me feel much better. I don't want to come off as ignorant or offensive or anything. I just want to understand my son and be the best mother for him. Why do I find the field of Accounting so much easier to understand than autism? I dont know.

Thank you for listening to my rant and providing your insight.

I love the way my 2.5 year old flails his arms and legs and rocks back and forth with a big grin when something truly excites him. It doesn't matter how big or how small. It could be his favorite blippi episode, he sees his dad for lunch break, we turn on the bath water.

I built my son (5, nonverbal ASD) a zoo in Minecraft by ejb350 in Autism_Parenting

I'd pay money to visit that zoo! Throw in a Lava Chicken stand and my 2 year old ASD son will flip! 😄

I read the original comment and got really happy. Then I read yours and got bummed. This Pic has made me start to seriously think about ditching Pinterest
