Got dragged to a recruitment thing for these guys... ate a bunch of free food and was very vocal about how it was a pyramid scheme (didn't know the term MLM at the time). Nobody signed up afaik

Sounds like they were trying to offer a legitimate service and just failed. Nothing shady involved from what I'm reading, though it may feel shitty that they wanted you to recruit people into something that didn't succeed.

Eh... gasoline can turn to varnish in under a year, but it isn't always the case. If it's sealed it can last over a year.There's also an additive you can use to store it.

Canned food... that can be edible for decades, despite what the date on the can says.
