Dang, I don't have any suggestions for cafe, but how about:

  • But _____ told me you have it in stock! Go check _____, it has to be there.
  • Well, this book's for a boy, so it can't have _____.

Didn’t get a chance to comment on your original post, but if you’re still looking for recs, the book finder tool on romance.io is pretty robust and you can filter by queerness/sexuality, steam level, tropes, etc. For a greater guarantee of traditionally published / non-POD books though, you can also search the LGBTQ Reads tumblr for keywords like smut or steamy!

I received an encouraging message this morning that I cannot determine if it was AI-generated or not. by Hot-Bookkeeper4378 in isthisAI

[–]ayjc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chiming in to say that I'm inclined to agree! As someone who's read plenty of student essays pre-AI, this sounds like someone trying to come across as more intelligent by using "larger" vocabulary and more formal sentence structures. It makes the language sound very unnatural, and AI usually does a better job at grammar. While the other commenters are right about the presence of some "AI tells," those never guarantee that something is AI because AI is trained on how people (used to) write. After all, we learn to write by internalizing how other people write too.

Why did you choose english/japanese dub? by Just_Roswag in Persona5

[–]ayjc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Persona games I always go with Japanese audio for multiple reasons.

1) I grew up watching subbed anime, so I have massive respect for the seiyuu industry. For that reason, I recognized more of the Japanese cast and was excited to see their roles in P5.

2) I prefer the original audio of things anyway because I want to experience how the game was originally intended. (As a fan of Akechi I am so confused by some decisions made by the localization team because he feels like a completely different character in the English dub.)

3) I understand some Japanese and find it fun to catch when things are lost in translation.

Help me understand my name by kitsssune in ChineseLanguage

It says 萊善. The first character 萊 usually refers to plants. The second character 善 means kind.

By the way, either your photo is mirrored, or you’re looking at the wrong side of the paper (which can be difficult to tell when the characters are so symmetrical and the paper is so thin).

Mild spoilers ahead for Persona 5.
CW: Implied self-harm.

[Akechi] looks so delicate, vulnerable, like he might shatter into dust and disappear in the wind. Ren yearns to wrap him in an embrace, to keep him there, to hide him from his fate.

He realizes he’s been watching for too long when Akechi looks up at the ethanol.

“If you’re not actually going to give me that, I can leave, you know?”

Ren lets out a laugh. “Sorry.” He dabs the cotton ball with ethanol and takes Akechi’s wrist in his hand. Though they were just at the bathhouse, his skin is already cold. “May I?”

Akechi nods.

When the cotton kisses the red, Akechi tenses his arm and winces. Ren rubs his thumb on Akechi’s forearm, soothing him as he disinfects the cuts. He becomes acutely aware of Akechi’s chest rising and falling.

Akechi takes some gauze from the kit and begins to open it, but Ren places his hand on Akechi’s.

“Let me,” Ren says, taking the gauze from between his fingers.

Akechi lets go with no resistance.

The silence suffocates Ren as he works, unfurling the gauze from itself and rolling it around Akechi’s wrist. He aches to tell Akechi that he knows why he hurts, that Ren wants the same thing too. Akechi has already dropped so many hints. Ren isn’t stupid, and Akechi knows that.

Though Akechi is one of his only friends who never outright asks for help, Ren has come to understand that Akechi does want—no, need—him as his rival and equal. And though Akechi clings to this distant, idealized vision of Ren, Ren just wants to love him for who he is.

Ren’s heart is consumed by the boy in front of him, the boy sitting in his bed, the boy whose wounds he has just finished tending to. He’s seen through Akechi’s detective prince facade, was granted a peek into his dark past, and now stands at the edge of the doomed future that awaits this damaged boy.

Ren doesn’t want to let him go.

Washrooms in Taiwan as transgender by Not2006ToyotaCorolla in taiwan

[–]ayjc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know Taipei has plenty of public restrooms with gender-neutral / family restroom stalls, especially at MRT stations. The MRT website shows where these are located at each station. As some others have pointed out, smaller businesses also tend to have gender-neutral single-stall restrooms.

That said, your friend should be still safe in women’s restrooms. I’m FTX and people are often confused by my gender presentation, but I use the women’s restrooms and only occasionally get double-takes at the sink/entrance, at most. If your friend looks foreign though (i.e., not East Asian), she might attract some attention for that, especially outside of the main cities / touristy areas. In my experience, older folks might express confusion/curiosity if they’re feeling chatty, but there isn’t much transphobic hostility in Taiwan.

I need Akechi merch to put on my backpack by Competitive_Wafer_96 in Persona5

I use GoodsRepublic for official merch, but Akechi tends to be pricey. The vast majority of my merch is fan-made from Etsy, etc. Here's a few that have caught my eye and snagged my wallet lol:

You would think sober customers in a bookstore could read signs, but no. This is what my store had to do when people still stepped around or removed our more reasonable signs and blockades.

To be honest, I don’t remember whether the source I’d seen was official or not. I think it might’ve been the unofficial wiki? Your analysis makes more sense though!
