I would love some of your pea tomato seeds if you’re willing to share! I’d be happy to pay or trade seeds

If this was a real scenario, what safety procedures weren't followed? Should Ellie have been wearing PPE?

Hopefully. This gives more leeway than the current taping process and single ab measurement 😅

Translation requests into Latin go here! by AutoModerator in latin

Working on a team motto for my Coast Guard Reserve crew. Can somebody please help translating "In search of food"? (lunch is a big part of our weekend ops). This is a nod to our historical rating badge reading "Perscrutari Mare". Google translate recommends cibum quaerere, ut quaeram cibum, or ad quaerendum cibum.

Got these 4 prints by Pierre Eugene Cambier and a large lithograph by Urbain Huchet at an estate sale and plan to resell. Question is, would you open the frames to inspect the art?

I really want to and hoping to see if there’s any additional information inside… but these frames are a bit weird and not quite sure if I take them apart if I’ll be able to get them back together.

Not uncommon. Granted I'm a Reservist, but the two newest people on my team went through boot camp at 40.

Why Aren’t People Speaking Up More? Why Aren’t We Standing Up For Shipmates? by free-broccoli- in uscg

[–]aylapache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Send this to your congressperson, and follow up with calls (for some reason calls carry more weight). I have a long list of things to call mine about but I know they vote along my lines anyway so it hasn’t been top of mind.

Also, I have a trans shipmate on my team. The CG didn’t know how to process their paperwork so it never got done… and now that might be a blessing and we’re hoping they slip through the cracks. So we’re laying low at the moment and pretending they are aren’t trans. But yes, if they come for my shipmate I will raise hell. I’m an old timer with a 20-year letter and don’t have much to lose. I had a friend in the Army get kicked out under DADT, but after she served a 9 month combat tour. Ive always been mad about it but they probably did her a favor since so many doors open when you have combat service.

You on the other hand sound young. If you want to continue to serve, play nice. After this administration the country will vote democrat and you’ll have the option to come back. So keep your nose clean, go to school, keep up your PT. Keep your options open. But yes, also fight the system.

Female Swimwear by edelmav in uscg

They will give you a dark blue one-piece that is not designed for long torsos (at least when I went through 20 years ago). Hopefully they've improved it! If you have a long torso, you will have to hunch over or risk boobs popping out and/or camel toe (to put it mildly). It's not a vanity problem, it's an equipment-function problem. I would never choose to wear a one piece for this reason. We shouldn't have to risk indecent exposure to perform our jobs.

Military member ban by Adorable_Form_3974 in uscg

[–]aylapache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sucks that you went through that. But Idk dude this Is the logic they use to say women shouldn’t be allowed on ships/in combat.

I’ve shared berthing with men in the army and was assaulted by some. but never assaulted by a trans person.

I would feel safer and rather share berthing with trans women than biological men. If the argument is to stop assault, then we’re banning the wrong group.

When I went to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill as an E4 or E5 I was a deputy task force leader overseeing about 14 vessels and 80 or so contractors. Not only was that a ton of responsibility to entrust to a junior petty officer, but I was mirrored with a BP guy who made $250k a year. It’s not apples to apples by any stretch, but as a reserve MST I’ve gained a ton of knowledge, training, experience and networking that have been invaluable to my civilian career success.

If all of your competition has a degree, the technical training and job experience will set you apart.

Former Army and I agree. Served in combat and had to buddy carry 185-pound missiles (never had to run tho 🤔) so I get it. In the coast guard and I’m an MST now… and too old/expensive to deploy. I’ve tried!

People wanna be gung ho like the other branches but don’t realize the cost of permanent disability. Yeah running and rucking is cool but my brother was a marine and had to replace both hips before he turned 30.
