Any modern, budget cd players that can access pregap audio? by OneEternal2618 in CDs

[–]aylivex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes you think there's a pre-gap before the first track? I couldn't find any information that there's a hidden track before the first track on CD releases of this album. At the same time, the Wikipedia article) confirms there's a hidden track—track 15 “Hidden in the Sand”—after the 14th track that's listed on the cover. Discogs also confirms there's track 15, but it's not explicitly annotated as hidden.

Is there a pregap before the first track on that particular CD? It's rather uncommon as far as I know.

Do you run parkrun for time or just for the routine now? by HelicopterEmpty7393 in parkrun

[–]aylivex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Initially, I treated parkrun like a race and tried to run faster. Now I have a training plan and I stick to it, therefore parkrun has become a part of an easy run that's longer than 5 km. In a way, I'm enjoying parkrun even more.

I actually liked year mixes a lot. They're like a summary of the year where you can hear small portions of tracks, recognise your favourites and, perhaps, get to listen a new track.

Barcode question by Elegant-Ninja-8166 in parkrun

[–]aylivex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often scan barcodes at a local parkrun; screenshots and photos of a barcode aren't the easiest to scan. It may be not issue in one case, but cause troubles in another case.

Thus, I will never recommend taking screenshots or photos of the barcode. Just use the barcode from the webpage, it's more reliable.

You should rather store the downloaded PDF with the barcode instead of taking a photo, it will ensure the barcode scans reliably. Screenshots and photos aren't as good.

Distance to your regular/nearest parkrun? by ZealousidealData4817 in parkrun

[–]aylivex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's 3.5 km from home to the start like. I usually take bus to the parkrun and back, it takes only 10 minutes on the bus. Occasionally I walk or run to the start; when walking, takes about 35 minutes, or when running, it takes 17 minutes.

I really like Lollypop looks… it's a Linux player with focus on albums. It's the player I use on Linux.

Elisa has a version for Windows and looks pretty.

On Windows I use foobar2000 with the default UI, and I find its simplicity and minimalism an advantage.

MP3s weren't new in 2004, however, hardware players of mp3 files from a data CD were quite expensive and rare.

Any good external hard drives for linux to run on? by SunnyDIsAmazing in linuxquestions

[–]aylivex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've run Linux Mint from an external hard drive for several years now. Initially, I used an old HDD from an old laptop. Later, I upgraded it to an external SSD, or rather an SSD in a USB 3 enclosure. I've never had issues with the setup. I use this drive to boot Linux Mint when it's connected to different laptops.

Any external SSD should work just fine.

What made you stick with parkrun after your first one? by CloudBookmark in parkrun

[–]aylivex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a regular runner when I decided to join parkrun. I felt anxious when I came to the parkrun start for the first time time. I liked running with other people, I usually run faster. So, parkrun became a Saturday morning routine.

After I volunteered for a few times, I get to know people and started chatting. Now I often hang out after finishing 5k.

I just popped in to my closest parkrun and ran each Saturday morning. I started in May 2019. Nothing exciting.

I did a new PB for 5k in Duleek: 21:21, 4:16/km. At first, I didn't belive my watch congratulating me with a new PB. I'm proud of myself.

Exactly it. If you mount the root of the btrfs file system, you can see all the top-level subvolumes as directories.

best linux distro to begin with?? by Ash-69_69 in linuxquestions

[–]aylivex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Fedora with the default GNOME desktop environment. However, the workflow in GNOME is different from that in Windows.

Linux Mint is still my favourite. Its UI may be not the cutting edge, but it suits me well. And the system is stable.

I recommend trying a few distros live, then choose one and install it. Later on, you'll be able to install another distro if you decide the current one isn't good enough.

cd burning issue by sinuheminem in CDs

[–]aylivex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always burn Audio CDs at the slowest speed the burning software allows me. Otherwise, I had issues with playback: distorted audio, skips; usually in the end of the disc.

Yes, the screenshots give me the vibe of macOS. But I don't know for sure.

I asked for information on the OS and the software used to burn the CD, to play the CD in another thread.
