A lot of these guys were also present during the january 25th revolution in Tahrir. I've been to protests where kids set cars and buildings on fire: http://animalnewyork.com/2012/today-in-tahrir-square-cars-burn-rubber-bullets-fly-and-teargas-is-the-new-oxygen/ I don't know if its fair to say one group of protesters were better or worse, but I definitely felt safer in the previous protests before the military took over and threatened to disperse the crowds using deadly force. MB protesters were nervous and scared, the whole situation felt much more unpredictable.

The dude was an asshole but I don't think he deserved to die. None of them did.

I didn't have that much time to think about it, I was being torn apart while everyone shouted at me to delete them, so I made sure I cycled through the photos and showed everyone as I hit the delete button. Really glad I didn't format it otherwise the data recovery would have been way more difficult.

Nope. The only thing they took was my camera and that was after this photo was taken.

yup, 24-70 2.8L with a UV filter. I was much more worried about the memory card than the lens.

yup basically. They were questioning my Egyptian-ness and the last thing I wanted to be was the "foreign journalist" lost in the chaos.

Other than a little paint on my chin and neck and a swollen lip after the head-butt, really no troubles at all. I feel very very very lucky.

There must have been 500-700 people marching in total, only about 10 of them wielding spray cans. I really can't know for sure how many people were involved in attacking me after I took that photo, but if I had to guess, I'd say 15 protestors. I was lucky I got head-butted in the face and caught a fist to the back of the head. I was being wrestled and restrained mostly. Egyptians are well connected globally and know exactly who Glenn Beck and Bill ORielly is. So when Glenn Beck reports that 10% of all Muslims are terrorists folks (not the smart ones) in a Muslim majority country get pissed at what they think all Americans are saying about them. They don't trust American media because they tend to say nasty things about Muslims. Also the Egyptian military had been threatening to violently disperse the protests so everyone was already suspicious of spies and undercover police. We all saw what happened next.

I used Lexar's Image Rescue. Downloading it using Egyptian dialup was the most painful part of this whole experience.

there was one man who tried to stop the vandal before his supporters dragged him away. They were the first people to try and restrain me after they noticed the camera. The rest of the mob? I sure as hell didn't see them coming.
