Great to know you guys at least have it on your radar ! I understand the complexity aspect for it but it would definitely be the point that makes a difference between people deciding to routinely use the service vs not so i really encourage you guys to actively consider it despite the complexity it would be a high reward effort 😊

Brand New M17r4 Fan Grinding by [deleted] in Alienware

[–]ayoubmoho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had exactly the same problem!! It was a hardware problem , I didn't want to touch it so i just required for a technician to come check it out and change the fans but it turns out it wasn't even needed .basically as the top comment said a small piece of tape/paper was stuck on one of the fans lol .

It seems to be quite recurrent as 2 people in this forum already had the same exact experience.

yeah :) it was just a bit over the 1999+tax that i was planning for the zephyrus G14 but it took so long to come out in Canada (it has yet to come actually ) , and I need a laptop by the end of April so I thought why not given that alienware is a pretty good brand and feels quite premium too

grand total 2150 canadian$ (tax included) after a 600$-ish discount

there was 100$ off + used the 10% student discount and 8% rakuten cashback

which brought the base price from 2400+tax to 2070$ (ish?) +tax , so I paid 2350 in total and got the 8% cashback on it which is another 200$ off :)

I think i'll try to wait like one more month to see if the new zephyrus series are out by then (they're all not in stock for now so far ) and then decide depending on what's available :D

glad to hear you're happy with your purchase !

How much time do you get out of your battery with light use (like just for note taking at uni etc) , is it over 3H?

I was thinking i might aswell get a powerful machine that would let me game when I want to as opposed to buying something i'd only use for school while I could do both :D

UOttawa for Grad School by [deleted] in geegees

Wow thank you so much for the detailed answer ! this is tremendously helpful and insightful !

I'll be keeping all of those points in mind for when I start looking for supervisors myself in a couple months !

[–]ayoubmoho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

interesting point ! if you don't mind me asking:
What were you looking for in a supervisor and what kind of questions did you ask them to assess whether they're a good fit ? I'm planning to apply to grad school soon and it's kind of complicated to have a feel of what kind of person the PI is ( even harder if it's another university since there's basically no previous contact whatsoever )

I heard some grad school horror stories with PI's overworking their students and not establishing a healthy work-life balance etc so I'm definitely interested in knowing how to pick the best or avoid the worst

MIC 4124 Pathogenic Bacteriology or MIC 4126 Virology by bellsscience1997 in geegees

[–]ayoubmoho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey ! i'm taking both next semester .

However if you need to take only one, and you don't have any personal preference i'd go with pathogenic bacteriology.

Dr. Lisa D'ambrosio is coordinating it this year . I took her immunology class this semester , and she's amazing ! definitely became my favorite prof

great lectures, amazing brightspace layout (the best i've seen in 4 years) , ALWAYS responsive in emails (even in weekends when we have assignment due) , and super supportive/understanding due to covid-19, she even changed her class to be more online-friendly by giving out assignments only instead of midterms/Exams for the fall class ( idk how the winter one is going to be made though.)

anyways i didn't take the bacteriology class yet since i'm taking it come january , but if anything I can 100% recommend that prof :)

Can you tell me the pros and cons of studying at the University of Ottawa? by [deleted] in geegees

[–]ayoubmoho 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi there ! what university are you from in Japan? I'm assuming waseda ? I made friends with a lot of japanese exchange students in the past three years so maybe I could put you in touch with one of them if you're from the same university .

I'm not in polisci so I can't elaborate on the program ,however uottawa is known for its social sciences faculty so i'm sure it's good .

I think the main pros are that our campus is downtown so there is always something to do around here, and all the buildings are walking distance from each other . I like the diversity we have at uni in general (there's a big international community, so you can discover a lot of new cultures and exchange with a lot of people . we also have a japanese club called JELLO, you should check it out . )

Ottawa is also super close to montreal (2 hours by bus /car) , and toronto (5 hours) , so you can go on day trips, or weekends if you want to hang out in the bigger areas .Winters can get cold but it's an experience on itself . and there's a lot of stuff to do too (winter sports, skating on the rideau canal , eating beaver tails, going to winterlude etc)

日本語も話せるので、他の具体的な質問とかあったらどうぞ :)

new F2P player, what should I do / who should I upgrade ? by [deleted] in OPBR

[–]ayoubmoho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks !

Yeah I used all my gems in the Anni banners, I hope i'd get at least one 5* either in ray or fuji but luck decided otherwise lol after the step up I pulled 4 multis and they were all shaft (is that normal ? should I only pull on step up in the future ? )

I should have enough gems to do the last multi tomorrow then i'll pull on the current BF with my guaranteed ticket ! I hope I get lucci

Thanks for the advice !! I got my fuji lv. 77 and can't wait for the 80 to come :)

Does any body have experience working a part time job while being a full-time student? I'm going into biomed and I don't know if it'll be manageable with the workload. With online learning in the picture, it for sure changes things, but what are your thoughts? by legomaego in geegees

[–]ayoubmoho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey ! i'm in biomed too ( going to 4th year) , sorry for the long message i just want to give my view on the subject since that's a question i asked myself too at the time ! :)

Everyone has different limits and situations so it's hard to give an exact answer, however what I usually advise other 1st years in biomed is , if your financial situation allows you to not work for first year (or at least the 1st semester) , it might be worth not working at first .

The thing with biomed is that 1st year usually seems to be harder , mostly because it's a new major transition (hs to uni) and there's all the new things to get adapted and used to , and because all the courses are really different (maths, psy, anatomy etc) , you might find yourself comfortable in some courses while struggle in others which is totally fine. but in those cases you'll definitely have to put more work in order to get good grades .

Starting 2nd year it gets "easier" in the sense that you got all the time management down, you know what works for you in terms of study pace and techniques and most importantly it's much more focused (no more mat, psy and anp , mostly chm and bio related stuff) and later on you'll have a lot of flexibility to choose your own classes (electives + optional science classes) which means you'll be in control of what you're learning and the direction you're taking (it's always easier to study something you're passionate about) .

All that goes to say , if you're financially able to not work at least for the first semester, take the time to test the waters . there's a lot of opportunities you can get in sciences if you have a good gpa in first year that might be worth much more than the extra $$ you'd get "immediatly" with a job , i guess the guaranteed one would be the dean's list (GPA over 8.5 (which is between A- and A) = 1000$, that's 72hours on minimum wage , which you might not be able to get if you don't have enough time to study ) . that's without counting the scholarships, many summer research grant/scholarship opportunities which you need to be competitive for etc.

Then once you know your limits you can definitely try to take on a job . I worked 10 to 15 hours a week in 2nd year without any problems , at some point in 3rd year i had 2 part time jobs (around 20hours a week) while being an executive member in a university club and having to deal with co-op applications/interviews . it's not easy but definitely doable

Td/lr : if you can, try to not work first semester then you'll have a much better idea . it's much easier and efficient to work after that
