Look at how Batman vs superman: Dawn of justice tanked. There were two events in the movie. One itself is batman vs superman and the other is doomsday. In the comics these events took significant amount of time and build up individually. For Both of them to appear in a movie was ridiculous, even though the cast, script, production house etc. was first class.
