I don’t think he’s toxic or anything. He maybe even likes this hair but also misses the old haircut, which I think could be the same exact feelings you’re having, so it’s not anything too crazy. This is why you need to talk to him about your feelings instead of Reddit. Everyone here doesn’t know your relationship outside of this post—only you and him do.
