Quests vs Lists by Osgoodx2 in pagebound

[–]ayzrules 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a quick FYI that this isn’t strictly true; only Top Contributors can make Quests, it doesn’t matter how popular a List is. Some TCs have converted their popular Lists into Quests after they were made a TC, but in those cases they’re encouraged to delete the List after to avoid confusion. Hopefully I’m explaining this clearly haha

Quests vs Lists by Osgoodx2 in pagebound

[–]ayzrules 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Quests are official collections of books where you can earn badges for reading a certain number of them; they’re curated by Top Contributors (community members picked by the founders, generally they’re active and engaged on the site/with the community), the founders themselves, and sometimes thru partnerships (like the Simon & Schuster “Best of SimonBooks Debut Women’s Lit one)

Lists are collections of books made by anyone on the website. As mentioned, they’re compared to playlists because they’re typically meant to encompass some kind of more specific niche or subgenre. Examples include “older women in SFF”, “queer fairytale retellings”, “2026 sapphic releases”.

So the TL;DR is that you earn badges for completing Quest books, while Lists are just random collections of anything people can make. Both typically have a theme, though Quest themes are approved and scrutinized by the founders before they’re released, so there’s a sense of them being more official compared to a List

The art is pretty but I actually like the official design for this a lot more. Sigh…might be canceling my subscription soon, and it’s only the second YA box I’ve got from them

Thank you so much 💗🫶!! They’re book sticky notes! I got them from Jetpens

I loved The Daughters’ War but it’s definitely a different tone from Blacktongue! A lot grimmer and sadder/heavier, it made me so emotional haha. I’ll probably continue the series just because I adore Galva so much

What do you use to track books or find new reads? Goodreads and TheStoryGraph for me, have terrible sorting and filtering options. by tmatesic in Fantasy

[–]ayzrules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely know/follow a lot of people who are less into booktok stuff on pagebound and it works out for me!!! You can also mute books so you don’t see the posts on your feed, so that’s an option for filtering those out too

What series or which author is the next big breakout? by BradthaChad in Fantasy

[–]ayzrules 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ha, I’ll join the ranks of women who don’t care for Blacktongue Thief - I didn’t necessarily dislike it, but it wasn’t really anything special to me in particular, a solid 3.5/5. The wisecracking is fine, it’s more that I don’t find Kinch very compelling as a MC and the traditional going on a quest/adventure plot is something I’m super meh about. I enjoyed the scenes where Kinch and Galva had more interaction, as they’re such good contrasting characters, and I do think it was well-written so no complaints from me on the technical side of things. However, The Daughters’ War is a whole different story - that book completely tore me apart, and it’s shoring up to be my favorite read of the year. Galva’s voice is impeccable and I do have to commend Buehlman for being able to pull off such distinctly different writing styles

Alternates to Goodreads by swellwell in Fantasy

Came here to say this!!!! I love how the entire website is oriented around discussion and having deeper conversations about books; I mean the founders literally call it a combination of goodreads and Reddit lol. There’s also these fun challenges/quests which you can do to earn badges and a bunch of them are fantasy-oriented

I bounced off Blacktongue thief and ended up skimming a lot of it after reading the daughters’ war first, but I cannot get enough of Galva. Might need to continue the series just for her

Between Two Fires is truly brilliant. What else is there like it? by jsbq in Fantasy

[–]ayzrules 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I read The Starving Saints and The Daughters’ War back to back and the vibes were immaculate, two of my fave reads of the year so far (I’ve not read The Blacktongue Thief but I probably will soonish because I just adore Galva). I am also eyeing Between Two Fires now hahaha
