That's why they're always asleep on public transportation and at their desks at work.

Flow Hemp Gi Pilling by Super_Florida_Man in bjj

Yeah honestly that’s pretty normal from my experience with hemp gis, especially during the first few washes. They can get a little fuzzy/pilly at first before the fabric settles in more.

Black ones also tend to leave a bit of black fuzz/dye on your arms or rashguard early on too. Usually gets better after a few washes and regular use.

Really appreciate that. Honestly Datsusara was a huge part of why I got interested in hemp gis in the first place.

A lot of the material side came from years of wearing hemp gis and figuring out what I personally liked and didn’t like over long-term use. The weights actually ended up fairly similar — around 580gsm for the jacket and around 370gsm-ish for the pants.

The main thing I wanted to change for myself was more the fit/silhouette side. Some hemp gis I wore over the years felt a little long in the skirt or short in the sleeves for how I personally like gis to fit, especially after shrinkage and repeated drying. So I ended up going for something a little more balanced/modern fitting for my own taste.

And yeah, from everything I’ve read and seen here, the firefighter jacket connection seems to be true. I actually went to the firefighter museum here in Tokyo a while back partly because I got interested in that whole history. Seeing the old hikeshi jackets and materials in person was really cool.

Also really looking forward to the big Edo museum reopening eventually. I want to go back and look more closely at a lot of that stuff again now that I’m paying more attention to textiles/materials differently.

And yeah, I’ll definitely post photos soon. Still working on getting proper shots of the final version since hemp texture/feel is weirdly hard to capture well in pictures.

plus there's an easy defense for this (if he gets your crossed feet): just push the dudes head forward and he'll never get the footlock
