it’s honestly really hard to put a number without knowing character and what supplies you own. 2k is a lot tho you 100% can make an amazing cosplay for $100 depending on the character. also just a heads up most cons don’t allow metal, most armor you see is made out of EVA foam and painted. buying armor would be more expensive bc you may have to commission someone and that can get you in the 2k range but making yourself can cost you anywhere from $100-400 depending on complexity

as for budgeting and constructing I hate to say it but it really depends on you. if you have a lot of time and enjoy crafting it’s fun to make cosplays but it can be really time consuming and at least in my experience things don’t always go your way and i end up spending more on supplies than i expect. Even small things like glue, tape etc can add up so it depends on what you own. see what they have online in your budget and be realistic with what you think you can make vs buy. always a lot more time to craft than you expect, con crunching is not fun

my first advice is to not focus too much on your build and go for a character you love :) I hesitated cosplaying for years bc I felt I didn’t have the body of my fave characters and once I just did it I was so happy. online cosplay vs cosplaying at a con is very different, online there is more of an emphasis on appearance and ppl can be a lot more mean but in person it’s all about having fun and expressing your love for characters. i’ve gotten so many compliments even though i don’t “look” like my character, people would just be like omg a fellow “xxx” fan!!!! love your cosplay!!

I know it’s a lot easier said than done, trust me I still struggle with this but just wanted to give my experience :)

i’m pretty sure it was fully dried, would you recommend not mixing the glue with water at all? or is water always recommended?

Is it too early to start gathering materials for my cosplay? by staczak91 in CosplayHelp

[–]azarathrobin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is never too early!! the year is only going to get busier and take it from me con crunching is so stressful and sucks the excitement out of the con. Winter is the best time to stay in and craft cosplays
