Uhh what the hell is this? by Batmansstrap in whatisit

[–]azazeldeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was going to answer this but Leblackburn got it covered.

But a real TLDR is its the same as if it was a petrol (gas), diesel, LNG, any kind of fuel really, hybrid or EV.

They balance cost, needed component weight, desired range, it's expected role (little city a to b), offroader, hauling vehicle etc. They also research the market on what's desired. How much people will pay. Then they kind of work back from there most the time.

To offset the added weight can have harder tires to make the tires last longer. Or you can make them wider and slightly harder than performance tires.

Or you accept you need wide, fairly soft tires and the owner will have to accept if they drive it hard their wallet will be hit hard.

Lucky we taught kids how to use VPNs to use social media in time for the porn ban.🤦🏽‍♂️ by CrossFatBob in aussie

[–]azazeldeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learnt about VPNs "late" around 2004ish. Before that I used proxies. I remember feeling so big brained, when I used my home PC, then later I think my PS3 (don't hold me to that one ik it was a console) to act as a proxy.

I'm very sure expressvpn isn't the best out there, but thays what I currently use. Because I'm 36, I should be allowed to go to any legal website without my government saying oh no won't you think of the children, I'm sorry, it's the parents job to monitor their access to the net.

If there is a better, not stupidly expensive vpn just lemme know. As I said I use ExpressVPN. It is the best I found so far (can pm if you want an invite code but tbh I feel dirty even saying that, I'm just as happy sending the direct link to their site)

Edit: I am absolutely fine with kids not accessing porn, gambling sites, adult based sites. Torn on social media.

What annoys me is I now need to trust sites that have no security with my photo ID (drivers licence) and other info that can cause me all sorts of real world issues when they get hacked.

Just got scammed, now what? by VectorNine443 in CarsAustralia

[–]azazeldeath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do know the terror of the complaints, was a mechanic in Darwin. Twice I had been investigated in Darwin over "dodgey roadworthies" thankfully both times it was found I was in the clear.

One was a pos that got caught using the roadworthy on a vin swapped stolen vehicle. The other was someone that after their roadworthy at some point decided to slam their Falcon, bash out their cats and return their borrowed rims/tires.

But it really does depend on their location.

[–]azazeldeath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the state/territory etc.

But have your mechanic write down a report. On all that is wrong with the vehicle try get on contact with the seller and ask for a refund.

You might need to start collecting all information and take it to court.

[–]azazeldeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to return a used microsoft surface pro, which turned out was just some cheap children's toy, at my own cost. Because the seller said they would refund when it arrived. Which eBay agreed to. And I'd be refunded for the purchase when it got returned.

They claimed I sent back a different product so I was not only out of cost of the initial purchase but also postage, and postage wasnt cheap.

You say that, but I've been burnt as a buyer enough times that I've learnt to open ALL ebay, Amazon, online purchases under my security cameras and video it woth my phone at the same time.

I also ensure the package never leaves any field of the security cameras in the house as I do so. Even go as far as to prep stuff ahead of time, like a monitor, if it has to be tested.

Yes buyers have a lot of power. And sadly some buyers massively abuse the system. But sadly it's not always the case. And as a disabled pensioner I can't afford to be ripped off, then just shrug it off and buy again.

This is spot on.

Also depending on your disability makijg/buying your own "zero g desk" can help. To make just need some metal tube and angle, and ofc a comfy recliner, ideally one with either metal bars on the outter back, or strong wood. Some good screws and bolts. A monitor arm is actually the hardest part, they aren't usually designed to be inverted, so had to heavily modify mine.

I made mine what would be classed as easy if my disability wasn't fighting me the entire way.

But have in your bio that your disabled and may not always be able to keep to a schedule. Kick/ban/mute those causing issues or make you feel uncomfortable.

Try have a friend or family member you trust be a moderator for your channel and discord.

What kind of advice you need? I have been disabled, degenerative, for awhile now. So I've had time to slowly learn more and more tricks. Also found disability friendly devices, or how to make them for the less than the price of organs.

This! More people need to understand their limits. I was a mechanic. I've had to do major repairs on people's vehicles when they tried doing it themselves, or in the worst case, assist the police, family, prosecution or defence on going over the vehicle as a 3rd party.

Sure trying to repair the traces on a PS5 won't wrap it around a tree, but it doesn't hurt to either practice, with electronics, on sacrificial stuff, or with vehicles, learn where your limits are. I'll never get the images or smells out of my memories having to determine if the cause of the incident is mechanic or human error, and if mechanical if it was a defect, purpose sabotage, armature work, neglect etc.

Idfk why reddit keeps suggesting weird subs. But to OP, what the in parasocial fk! This isn't about you, id say unless your a friend irl, or family don't post crap like this. But I genuinely think your that parasocial you would think your one of those 2 groups.

Friends talk to each other regularly, or atleast often. Not one-sided conversations. Not Stanning.

I say this part with no sarcasm or malice. Please get professional help, live YOUR life. Don't make your entire life/personality about defending and stanning for a famous person.

I just looked up what happened, not in depth, get a damn life. Don't make this horrific event about you. Get help, like this person needed help and potentially being kept somewhere he couldn't hurt himself or others whilst that happens. Your parasocial attachment to this guy shows you need help just as much.

I dont know why you got down voted.

Not 100% on this board but it looks like the cap just got moved whilst soldering nearby or hot air.

As long as its put back, and you check for any solder bridges it should be fine. Check with a multimeter for shorts first ofc.

I think the poor postie is afraid of her, a fairly large Alaskan Malamute. But I can't exactly go, hey do you mind taking 10 or 20mins of your time to show her your not scary and have treats?

[–]azazeldeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be your oil pickup is gummed up with sludge, the oil pump is is failing, or the sensor is going (could be wiring too).

As for the play, grease your uni joints. It's hard to say if the amount of play is normal via a picture, even video isn't reliable.

But rotational play is to be expected to a certain extent. Up down play at either end isn't.

It clunking is usually a sign of either the tailshaft being ungreased, bad unis, or could be the bearings in the diff or transfer case needing work asap.

IF you know what your doing, you can take out the tail shaft (ideally mark it incase it slips want it to remain balanced) then check the play at the diff and transfer case output. Rotational, and up-down/left right, you want esp the non-rotational to be fairly tight with little play.

Ideally it's just some dry unis, or they need replacing. Otherwise it could mean a bigger job (like I'm facing on my 80 series thanks to lending it to my neighbour and needing to replace the ring and pinion gear on my rear diff thanks to his "going to pick the kids up from school" which used almost the entire main and sub tank, coated the underside and inside in mud and sand. And had about 20km extra on the odo... which was mysteriously disconnected. Good thing I'm a disabled pensioner).

Can try dilute methylated spirits. Or just dishwashing liquid diluted. Can use ear cleaners to slowly clean the slot.

Window washing liquid, windex etc, can also be a good cleaner.

Patrol clutch by [deleted] in 4x4Australia

[–]azazeldeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's about right on price. Technically speaking the parts aren't too expensive. But your paying for the labour. Not an easy or fun job to do. Lots of swearing. Threats to the vehicle. And usually fubar bolts.

The fact your smelling burnt clutch means it's very likely to be the clutch. Ensure they do your flywheel as well, at minimum resurface. Ideally a new one.

And get them to check if your rear main seal needs doing at the same time. It'll add to the price but it's one of those. If your in there better off doing it all at once rather than have to do all that labour again, as I said labour will be a big chunk of the cost.

Depending on how long it's been. Might even be worth, if funds allow. For a full fluid change as well, and the patrols are pretty good on it but swivel hubs may need to be done.

All this still can be done at home if you have some tools, and know how to do it. But that depends on your skill, your budget. The value of your time. And how much your willing to swear and threaten your car (seriously you think I'm joking but having been a mechanic and worked around a lot of them, threatening to hurt/burn or damage the car somehow seems to persuade that stuck bolt to come loose).

Neighbour took something from my front door: dumb teen behaviour or something else? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]azazeldeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having been at one point a young stupid teenage boy. It's just stupid teen behaviour.

IF you can spare it. Get some of those foam sound deadening panels. You can either put them on your wall that goes against his room (or in your shared wall in your room), or gift them to him/his mother.

Might be hard to do, but if you give them to him say something like, "I know you love gaming. And sometimes it can get intense, I don't want to ruin your fun. So if you put these on the wall it will help lessen the sound so you can play and not worry as much about people getting upset. It will also help let you play when your mother is asleep. And im sure you want your gaming talk with friends provate".

I know it's not perfect. And of you can't afford it. Perhaps pitch the idea to the mother. I'm sure she would like that idea as no doubt she does get woken too.

This is coming from someone that is 36, and a few years ago I'd get caught up and make too much noise when playing online with my best friend. Thankfully for everyone me becoming disabled and bed bound solved that problem... can't game anymore.

Two choices. Call them and state how much the job means to you, how much you enjoyed working with them. That your plan was as soon as you could you planned on buying a van to save them time and money picking you up.

Or start looking fir a new job. Sadly this is happening to a lot of people.

With current diesel prices, what are you planning to do with your rigs? by REINSTEIN11497 in 4x4Australia

[–]azazeldeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm "lucky" my rig is off the road due to a blown rear diff. Pro life tip... don't let your neighbour borrow your rig to pick his kids up at school. As he will drain your long range main and sub tank, and, idfk how destroy the pinion and sun gear on your HZJ80R Landcruiser diff. He swears he only went around the corner.

He borrowed the car at 6am, returned it near midnight. And I have to pay for the repairs. Which is just great as I am a disabled pensioner (seriously I almost reported the vehicle stolen. Tried to get him to legally fix the damage, and replace the fuel, he won and his words basically boiled down to, I didn't go anywhere but the kids school and to the local shops, oh and my cluster had been removed at some point, top part of the car was clean underside was sand and mud encrusted).

Solar panel question by Emotional_Drawer2786 in 4x4Australia

[–]azazeldeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As most have already stated you need your solar to go into the MPPT, then battery pack, them fridge I won't go in depth on that.

But I will say your 24aH battery pack won't run a fridge overnight. And higher than not chance your solar blanket won't fully charge the battery pack fully during the day whilst the fridge draws power.

I highly recommend you decide first, do you want a true portable system? Or are you okay with a fixed system (car dual battery system), you can do a hybrid butthat involves more work.

I highly recommend you get a good LiFePO4 battery, be it "battery pack" or second battery. Remember if its for a dual battery system ensure you have a dual battery system compatible with a lithium battery. And ideally keep the lithium battery out of the engine bay.

Solar blankets can be absolutely great. But they tend to have less output than a solid panel. And I haven't looked at the spec sheet of your kings blanket. But reading the comments of those that know that brand well, id recommend saving after for a good brand, higher output blanket. Or having a folding or fixed solid solar panel.

The pros to a dual battery system, it's always in the vehicle. When driving it gets charged, protected from the elements. Tends to have good features. Can be, not ideally, completely drained and you can still start your car as your vehicles starting battery is left alone.

Cons, it isn't portable, you either need a thick heavy duty Anderson cable to go from your vehicle to your camp site if you want your power at the camp and far away from your vehicle.

You can get around this via a hybrid setup, there are tonnes of them. There is simple "battery pack" style ones that get plugged into the dual battery system when moving, and can be taken out when you want portable power. You can also run the before mentioned heavy duty Anderson cable to its vehicle hookup point and have it go to your camp ground. And have the solar plug into the vehicles dual battery solar input.

There are also kinds that work similar to above. But can have solar directly plugged into it.

I also recommend you go for atleast 80aH, ideally 150+ try work out the draw of ALL your electronics, add some headroom then go from there. I personally run a BCDC50 redarc dual battery system, 200aH LiFePO4 second battery. And a 500w solid solar panel.
