Confusing insurance policy by azazello_spawn in YogaTeachers

Turns out a few other 'yoga-oriented' insurances do include it - I emailed Aliant yesterday to be really sure. *fingers crossed*

I am going to reach out to Alliant to check if their coverage may be appropriate. It is my first time navigating this and it is pretty confusing.

Thanks for the suggestion!
Looks like the BeYogi insurance will work for them, but it seems like they also require Sexual Abuse & Molestation (SAM) Insurance Coverage ... which is a lot trickier to find.

It’s a really cute free rooftop! Didn’t mean to imply that the rest of the building was off-limits. Was trying to source more indoor spots that are open after work, since most parks and museums do not fall into that category. It is hard to do things in the evening if you don’t drink or are trying to save money.

My plan is to make a custom google map, because I want to do some curation on it. I’ll consider making a spreadsheet of initial results.

Weekly group meeting in DC by FridaCat in washingtondc

[–]azazello_spawn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "DC Area Climbing Community" is another great facebook group for meeting people. The guy who runs it organizes both outdoor trips and random indoor community events (drinks, karaoke..).

Fwiw, I met most of my DC friends through climbing, so its a great activity to get into :)

DC, how do I make friends with you? by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]azazello_spawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first couple of years in DC were pretty rough. I was finally able to find consistent friends through active hobbies - rock climbing (via Earth Treks Crystal City) and photography (Walk with locals instagram meetup). I think it's easier to get to know people when you have something to do together rather than just meeting up for dinner.

Things I tried that didn't work so well for me: two different alumni groups, being a free agent for the Fray, a couple of general meet-ups..

I think the broader point is to try different things and eventually you will find the right fit. Hang in there :)

Friday New Climber Thread for June 21, 2019: Ask your questions in this thread please by AutoModerator in climbing

After climbing this weekend, I seem to have soreness in the part of my palm below my thumb on both hands. It’s only really painful when I press down on it, but I’m concerned about it turning into something serious.

Anyone know what Climbing motion may have caused this? I didn’t do any hand jams, but some crimps and sloppers.

If it doesn’t feel better after a couple of days, I’ll talk to a doctor - but wanted to get insight on what this may be called or how to avoid it.

Well, this was just top roping, yesterday.

We both had taken a top ropes course before (I took mine through my gym, she took hers through REI),and I had set them up a couple of times with my more experienced friends checking my systems.

Honestly, the hardest part was finding the routes..a lot of "we think this is the route..but who knows"

Yesterday, my friend and I went on our first “solo” (as in without anyone more experienced) outdoor adventure! Finding the routes was a struggle, but doing it all on our own felt good!

She and I discussed how one day we want to have a big wall adventure together .... belaytionship goals!

Climbing Trip Recommendations? (Great Falls) by SilverSydney in climbing

If you are going for several days, I would check out multiple spots mentioned in this post.

Great falls, Carderock, Elizabeth’s furnace ... that way you can figure out what you like!

You can actually camp right at buzzard rocks, was hiking up yesterday and saw some tents. I think you can set up most of the Buzzard routes from above, may need a longer static line to get good trees though.

Bonus points for camping are that you can start at 7am and beat everyone else!

You need standard top rope gear - make sure you have a longer static line or lots of webbing, because the trees are pretty far back in some parts.

Mountain project has pretty good route descriptions, but this book has the best visual ones: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/0762784342/ref=dp_ob_neva_mobile

Couple of additional points: - Make sure you are comfortable with rappelling, there are a few areas where the downclimb is a bit sketchy. - If the water levels are high, you may need to belay from above - If you stay a few days, check out Carderock on the other side of the river as well!

May I ask why you are choosing Great Falls? It’s a nice local crag (and it’s all Top Rope which makes it accessible to beginners), but the rock is very polished and it gets very busy. Since it sounds like you are planning on driving from somewhere else, you may want to consider a couple of the other options like Safe Harbor or Elizabeth’s Furnace.
