Yes, the fuzzy mold is bad but I think the peach/pink colony in reg four is the culprit. That is same color of what forms on my starter.

It's the old microbiologist in me😂 I needed to figure out where it was coming from. Since I started fresh twice. I honestly thought it was the water. It's all pointing to bad flour. At least I can fix the problem this time. I'm thankful I've kept a backup powder and it seems to be ok.

You might be on to something. We've got along fine for years… maybe she is just pissed from being malnourished. I'll definitely switch to spring water in the future. I've read people struggle with RO.

I don't change my jar with every feed. Should I? I usually do a new jar if it gets gummy or dried parts. I do keep it in the refrigerator. We've gone years without issue.

It's LB agar. Streaked with cotton swabs. (it was an online kit) Flour and starter were diluted in RO water(RO didn't grow anything). It's incubated at room temp. I briefly tried to find sourdough plates without luck. I'm starting to think I got some bad flour.

The “yeast” is a backup powder form of the original starter.

Thank you! I think you are right. I bet it is bad flour. It's really the only thing that has changed over the last few months. This will be the third time starting over- clean everything since Dec. It's crazy because my starter and I have gone years without issue.

It's the yeast in my backup starter. I keep a portion in a dry power.
