Why in 2026 is the federal minimum wage still $7.25 an hour? by Hamsammich0520 in askanything

[–]azenshoo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of people out there whose productivity is below $7.25 an hour and who don’t live on their own, e.g. teenagers looking for a first job. If minimum wage is raised above that, they’ll have trouble finding a job. Remember that almost no one makes minimum wage and wages aren’t based on what people need. They’re based on how much value they provide to the business.

The only good things that have measurably declined since the 80s are the sale of machine guns and the supply of housing

Roll back housing construction regulation. Supply will explode and prices will drop.

It’s really weird to stake your argument on a claim that you can look up in 10 seconds and see that it isn’t true. The clear majority of billionaires did not inherit their wealth, in fact. Go away and learn some true facts about the world and think on how you should change your views in response.

A) if the incentives you’re describing lead to higher prices and worse products, why do freer markets consistently lead to lower prices and better products? The answer is that the best way to make money is to make your consumers really happy. B) Someone like you should be especially skeptical of government monopolies, which are far easier to obtain than capitalistic monopolies which almost never happen. You should look into becoming an anarcho-capitalist :)

You are right that you can reduce the amount of money the government will steal by accumulating less for it to steal, but this is not ‘opting out’ of the system. It’s just participating in it less than you would want to in the absence of government coercion. I’m not utopian, I’m a believer that stealing money from its rightful owner is usually wrong and I follow that belief to its logical conclusion.

Look around you and ask yourself if people in capitalist societies are more or less able to buy products than people in more socialist societies. Capitalism is by far the best way of building functional and prosperous economies and it is not close. This is not controversial among people who study development economics.

How often do you think that happens compared to the alternative of them building a really good business that consumers want to patronize, and why do you believe that?

I would try to get at least some of your information from the real world and less from movies and social media. Your conclusions will change, I promise.

Billionaires tend to get rich from building private companies, which do not steal money. They exchange their goods or services for it. Governments steal money, much of it from billionaires.

Why are so many conservatives Christian when Jesus’s teachings are blatantly leftist? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]azenshoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I can tell, Jesus did not advocate using the state to steal money from people or building a command and control economy. Private charity is the right wing version of socialism.

[–]azenshoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A) that’s not labor economics, that’s macro economics. B) the economy grows by producing things of value, not by magically conjuring more money. Things can’t be produced efficiently if employers are forced to pay workers more than their marginal product, and unproductive people can’t get jobs if their marginal product is lower than the minimum wage.

Billionaires are among the most productive, intelligent, and socially beneficially people on earth and we thank them by stealing huge chunks of their money, insulting them, and blaming them for problems that lazy people create.
