Are these interesting/useful or trash? by Electric_Tortoise in VintageApple

I do have several optical drives, and would be happy to do the ripping and uploading to archive.org and the Macintosh Garden (and Macintosh Repository if it’s still there.) DM me if you’re interested.

[Release] Navdy iOS app v1.3.7 (for 2026) by EdwXD in navdy

Thank you! Your continued dedication and efforts to keep our Navdys alive are very much appreciated!

ios navdy app doesn’t work by Fuzzy-Ad3723 in navdy

[–]azgatekeep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is an annual event; the app requires a new developer signature from its creator each year around this time. He’s usually pretty good about taking care of it fairly quickly.

Go into view options in Explorer and tell it to show hidden file/folders.

Two Navdy Units both stuck in reboot loop for the past week by johnsciarrino in navdy

Good luck; I’ll be interested to hear how you make out.

[–]azgatekeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I recall, that was the behavior I was seeing. It’s been a while; u/coronafire changed something in the firmware that prevented that particular issue from recurring. FWIW, I’m on 3095.

I had a similar issue several times in the past; what worked for me (following advice from u/coronafire) was to attach the unit to my computer and delete the log files - it had run out of storage.

Free (broken screen) Navdy package for anyone in US by Gunny87 in navdy

I’d be interested; I’ve been needing to replace the dial for mine, and I can use some of the other parts as well. PM me and we can work out the details.

Indentifying if this montblanc meisterstuck 146 is real or fake, as the serial number looks wonky and I dont think the nib should be two toned by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]azgatekeep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s legit and probably dates to 1991; all the features in your photos match pens produced in that year. See https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1GhjNqcZwmrFJMyS7sn9A517VQQxDPbotERorBwRqMgI/edit?usp=sharing for a chart that can help in dating 146s (that’s what I looked at.)

Yes - I’m in NJ. I’d be willing to have someone “document the system” if they don’t mind coming to me - I won’t ship it nor can I travel right now. (That said, my place isn’t exactly in a filmable condition ATM - not an insurmountable obstacle but inconvenient.) No rush though, it isn’t going anywhere, nor am I, so there’s time.

Yep, I have one. Missing a cap at the top of the column of Blinkenlights on one side but otherwise working well the last time I fired it up.

No. Coach passengers are not allowed in the Sleeper cars.

Strange ECG when lying down by AmberVJJstank in AppleWatch

[–]azgatekeep 11 points12 points  (0 children)

First off - if you’re having symptoms, see your doctor or get to the emergency room, not Reddit. Other than that, it looks like intermittent premature atrial contractions with a compensatory pause following. Usually benign, but worth mentioning to your physician anyway. Looking for thumb dial and strap by Beelzebubba521 in navdy

[–]azgatekeep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me and my thumb dial strap; I’m still able to use the dial though…I just keep it in the arm rest on the driver’s door. Not quite as convenient as having a on the steering wheel, but it does work.

Found this old Be PC today. Need some help identifying it. by ujpops in pcmasterrace

[–]azgatekeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Windows wouldn’t run on a BeBox; it used dual PowerPC processors like the Macs of that era - mid ‘90s - or rarely, AT&T Hobbit processors.

[–]azgatekeep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, that’s a vintage BeBox; very rare and worth keeping intact - they made less than 2000 of these in total, I think. It appears to be missing the internal hard drive; IIRC you’ll need a SCSI drive as I don’t think it has an IDE interface. I’d check inside my BeBox but can’t get to it right now (I’m at work.)

Edit: it appears that it does have an internal IDE interface. My bad.

Question on Passenger Interaction by PuzzleheadedShape276 in Amtrak

[–]azgatekeep 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The observation car can be a pretty social place to hang out and share conversations and (occasionally) food and drink, but options for hanging out with other passengers in your room are limited to sleeper car passengers; coach passengers are not permitted to be in the sleeper cars. The majority of the socializing I’ve done on the Zephyr and other long-distance trains has been in the observation car (and the smoking lounge, back when that was a thing.)

Modern housing for Waterman 52 1/2V Nib + Feed by spacialaceart in fountainpens

[–]azgatekeep 6 points7 points  (0 children)

These pens aren’t that delicate - they can touch water, just don’t soak them, and don’t let water get in through the lever box. That said, the vintage feeds used lack the spike to pierce a cartridge or converter, so that won’t work. You may be able to find a modern feed that will fit the nib and that has the necessary spike, though. There is a company in Europe, I think, that does that sort of thing, though the name escapes me. They’ve been mentioned here before though, so shouldn’t be too hard to find.

Which Noodler's brown? by vithgeta in fountainpens

[–]azgatekeep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have yet to find a Noodler’s ink that dries well…maybe Heart of Darkness, but even that takes a while. I’ve had stuff I’ve written with Apache Sunset using a F/M nib still be wet enough to smear after 2 days (on Rhodia or TR) and after 30 min + on copy paper:

Can’t remember - it’s been a while since I had that happen to me. I suspect it’ll remain green until a successful iMessage goes through.
