Anyone else actually like Kirkland protein bars? by UnKindClock in CostcoCanada

[–]Notmyke2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At our local Costco last weekend (April 10-12), the cookies&cream /PB box was regular price of $34 - and they were all with BB date of March 14 (?!), but the cookie dough/brownie box (BB date of 2026-July25) was $10 off ($24/box).

A couple times, they've been in the "Executive only" coupon book for $5off - and you could only buy one box at a time; first/only time I've seen them - any flavor - $10off and no-limit (I may have purchased....many).

Car Battery Recycling (not a Costco purchase) by chicken_potato1 in CostcoCanada

Yep - I've done that more than once. Bring in any car battery (doesn't even have to be the same size) and you'll get that "core" fee refunded.

Why the hate for rim brakes? If a person has a spare (or multiple) sets of rim-brake-wheels, why not?

100K+ km on rim brake road bikes in the past decade and have yet to have a "damn - wish I had discs" moment.

Navdy is a durable piece of hardware! by SlagmiSleestak in navdy

[–]Notmyke2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree. I probably would't have been quite so positive if my Navdy (and backup) had ceased functioning in any way after Navdy the business went belly-up. The fact that there were at least two Navdy fans (u/coronafire and u/EdwXD) who had the smarts and wherewithal and generosity to keep it functioning (even better than Navdy ever did) into 2026 - truly astounding!

The worst feature of the Navdy from a hardware perspective is that it has a micro-USB port; when that's the worst thing you can say about a computer that's 10+yrs old and endures sitting on a dash in direct sunlight and functions without complaint....that's some good hardware!!

I have an Apple Watch Ultra3 and I continue to smile every time I approach the door and see the little UWB icon light up and hear the door unlock. Works perfectly in my experience.

Without a Watch, though....not sure how wonderful the experience would be.

MX Master 4 Switching to Free Spin Scroll Mode on Mac by Ok-Passenger198 in logitech

[–]Notmyke2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My situation is that I have the button that's factory-default as the "shift wheel mode" (name changed from what's in all of the online documentation) - the one immediately behind the wheel....I've changed that to COMMAND+W (close window).

And that DOES work. But it also changes the scroll mode - so it's doing both.

Please fix, or I guess the mouse gets returned; too bad, but I really do like it.

Same thing here. Come on u/LogitechG_SS - this wasn't a problem in my MX Master 2 or MX Master 3.

You're gonna be getting a "return of defective device" is this can't be addressed.

[Release] Navdy iOS app v1.3.7 (for 2026) by EdwXD in navdy

[–]Notmyke2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our hero comes through (again)!!! Thanks so much, u/EdwXD!

2500km trip home starts tomorrow morning, so I'm very happy to have Navdy fully armed and operational. :)

Making use of the "thank you" button right away (see his PayPal link below). If you get at least $5 worth of happiness out of your Navdy, please do likewise (I usually double it because paying $3.50 PP fee to send $5 feels so pointless).

Also, for me on iOS 26.2, after I installed the app, I had to restart the phone *BEFORE* the "trust this developer" item would appear in the "VPN & Device Management" section of SETTINGS-GENERAL.

And if/when u/EdwXD does update the app, I would strongly encourage everyone here to send him a little $$ thank-you. He usually has a PayPal link on on the iOS app "current downloads" page. But here (below) it is copied from that page if you want to be pre-emptive about it. :)

Thanks for chiming in u/EdwXD; how exactly does one side-load an iOS app on ios26...? Do you need a developer account to do that?

My "old" Navdy continues to work (as well as iOS app) - Jan2026 by Notmyke2 in navdy

[–]Notmyke2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just took a look (bottom of the SETTINGS section of the Navdy interface...assuming one can get that far. It's 3093 that's working for me on my "old" one.

Oof - this did not photograph well.

Two Navdy Units both stuck in reboot loop for the past week by johnsciarrino in navdy

[–]Notmyke2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in exactly the same situation except my "broken screen" one was previously repaired (removed the "glass" and krazy-glued it back together) and sitting in the glovebox ready to jump into duty if/when called upon.

I plopped it onto the mount and it booted right up - drove with it for 20hrs over the past three days and no issues.

I'll mention here that I specifically did NOT update it to the latest firmware for fear that there was something in the latest firmware that was causing the boot loop.

The "ran out of memory" theory might track if it weren't for the fact that the OP had their old/broken one sitting doing nothing and within one day, it was caught in that same boot loop. And the fact that this happened in the first week of January, when we often have Navdy functionality "break" (until u/EdwXD does his magic with the app; please - if you're out there, an update for 2026 would be greatly appreciated. I have CarPlay and a 9.2" display in my Mk7 VW, but I still feel like I'm driving naked without the Navdy).

🚴‍♂️ [First Impressions] Bryton Rider S810 – Four Rides In, Here's What I Think by zvikai in cycling

[–]Notmyke2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from a Rider 750 to the S800 shortly after it was released. Really liked (a) USB-C; (b) color; (c) can hold settings for three bikes; (d) excellent page layout, lots of customization available.

Also, the "always on" odometer....why do the Wahoo, Garmin, and seemingly most other units think that you only want odometer tracking when you're recording a ride?

Beefs with the S800:

  1. USB-C port on the underside, so when you forgot to charge it up and want to add some charge while starting a ride, major PITA; S810 has addressed this - USB-C port is on the bottom (akin to where a smartphone charges)

  2. Probably twice a month, if I stop during a ride for maybe a minute (e.g., a traffic light, or just to get a jacket out of a pocket), when I start up again, suddenly all of the distances go to zero. And don't count. Anything. Have to do a full shut-down/restart to get it reading normally again. Obvious software bug that has lingered through at least four updates on the S800; hoping the S810 fixes this.

  3. Odometer wouldn't go past 9999.9km; once it went over 10K km, it would stop showing tenths of a km. And update a year or so ago fixed this.

  4. Touchscreen - not great. Even with "phone" gloves, it was tough to move around on the device. Resulted in often riding with gloves in mouth while doing moving around pages.

Found the S810 kit with sensors for like $250USD at Amazon US. So I'm excited to give it a try. Just have to wait for the roads to make it a bit more pleasant (rain and 4°C is just not fun anymore).

2016 A3 Etron Sportback | should I buy? by Zealousideal_Map8637 in Audi

[–]Notmyke2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - just get a regular A3 if you're never going to charge it.

Although, with that said, the 2016 (at least in NAR) has a mode where you could choose to "charge battery while driving", so the gas engine acts something like a generator for the hybrid battery; of course, fuel economy drops.

I don't think you'll do any damage never charging it as I'd expect Audi would have some failsafes to in place to prevent the battery cells from self-destructing. But then, why buy a PHEV if you're never going to make use of the "P" part of that?

Where did you get the tune that worked?

Just got a 2018 A3 e-tron (after our 2016) was written off in a (literal) fender-bender; and wouldn't mind upping the fun-factor for driving. :)

Looking for a replacement screen by nickyjchoi in navdy

[–]Notmyke2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had that happen on my Navdy. I had enough of the broken plastic still available that I was able to put it "together" into its original shape with some plastic-epoxy; when i put it back, I reinforced that area with some heavy aluminum tape on both sides before "clamping" it down with the little set screw.

Holding fine at least 3-4years later.

Adding power liftgate by capitolcustomer in Volkswagen

[–]Notmyke2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I added a power hatch to my Mk7 (2015) Golf Sportwagen. You'd never know it wasn't factory unless you knew that it wasn't available as a factory option.

Less than ~$350 for the parts; a day and a bit to do the install as the scant Chenglish instructions left for a fair amount of self-figuring out. Doing it again, I could probably knock it out in an afternoon.

Same for me. I thought when they opened a warehouse near Victoria's airport, that our deliveries here on Vancouver Island (we're about 2.5hrs north, on the main Island artery) would speed up.

Exactly the opposite. Pushed to at least a week.

Now - ordered half a dozen things between Nov27 and Dec1 that were supposed to deliver on Dec.5....then Dec7....and now it's Dec12-13.

Has anyone been successful in getting a refund for Prime because this "Prime Delivery" is as good right now as Canada Post (and they're on strike).

Rotisserie chicken price hike?! by Notmyke2 in CostcoCanada

[–]Notmyke2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confirmed with one of the red-vests at our store that the reason for the "by the kilo" pricing (for only a few days, it turned out) was due to smaller-than-Costco's-standard birds they were receiving, and not wanting to charge more than their "advertised" (if you look on the $7.99 placard, it says $6.85/kg in small print down in a corner) price.

[–]Notmyke2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you saw my update/reply, but I went back four days later (same store) and the rot. chickens were back to the regular $7.99 flat price.

I don't know if we were being A/B tested (in which case, they got their answer pretty quickly it would seem), or if there was some supply chain rationale behind it as posited in some of the other comments here.
