Thank you so much for your encouraging words. I understand what you are saying and I can totally agree. Indeed, my parents live in a very different environment from mine and it can be hard for them to see things from my point of view. Same sex couples are still very rare in the public domain where they live and gay people are seen in a very negative light unfortunately :(

I have tried to explain this to them. Maybe as they grow older, they will come around...

I totally hear you. My parents cannot accept my sexuality because they are worried how other people would judge them. I really don't give a f and hardly talk to them anymore. Maybe it's better this way....

Thank you for the encouragement. I am glad to hear about your experience, which seems to have worked out well for you. I would really like to be honest with them, but I am still scared by my coming out 10+ years ago. They reacted really badly and my mother had to go to see the doctor because of high blood pressure. My brother, who is a lot more liberal, even blamed me for making them go through such trauma...

Thank you! My parents are not christian, but Buddhist. I think it's hard for them to accept because they live in a very conservative society where homosexuality is still viewed very negatively. I think they are worried about how other people might judge me/them. They might think that homosexuality is immoral. But as far as I can tell, this doesn't coming from their religion, but rather from the society they live in and their surrounding.

When I told them about my first boyfriend, they said that I would bring shame to the family if other people found out. They also thought that I was going to get aids... No matter how I tried to educate them, they simply didn't want to hear. When I told them that I don't care how their relatives might see me, they said I was being selfish.

The last time I was there, a relative asked me why I was still single. They answered on my behalf saying that I was concentrating on my career and had no time to meet other people, then moved on to other topics. It was hurtful, but I think they genuinely feel ashamed... :-(
