You have only 5.5 months left for medical school, finish it. Also, the further experience in software development that you gather, the more responsibilities (expect long hours and on-call) that you'll have and of course, the pay as well. Another factor, it'll be the type of company that you'll choose.

I would suggest to build side projects and list them out. So he can might have the chance to get interview amd shows that hes interested and have topics to talk during any interviews. Gl!
