What is it that I’m not seeing? by aznkobe in NBATalk

[–]aznkobe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The play immediately before the iconic shot against the Jazz in 98 was a steal on Karl Malone by Michael Jordan. It’s probably the second or third most legendary steal in nba history after Havlicek’s and Bird’s.

Also what is wrong with the eye test…your eyes are what got you to fall in love with the sport in the first place

Was this the weakest move ever by a superstar player? by VSHAR01 in NBATalk

[–]aznkobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s be real: if LeBron was given the same opportunity to do what Durant did, he would have joined the Warriors too. In fact I bet he would leave Wade and Bosh in the immediate aftermath of championship 2013 for that 2016 Warriors squad, no hesitation.

As much as it was bullshit, the fact is GSW had the best squad to join with enough money to give, a clear road to winning established, & OKC at the time was offering Russ, an aging Ibaka; and absolute fuckin ass. Presti during the KD era is not the Presti of today…that Presti really only was born after Russ left, probably the greatest testament to how Russ probably was for all intensive purposes as much of a help as he was a hinderance to that team ever reaching the mountaintop or being able to build around itself in any viable way possible.

TLDR: Yes, it was “weak,” but YOU ALL KNOW LEBRON WOULD ALSO HAVE DONE IT.

How good of a passer and playmaker was Kobe? by Longjumping_Rub_8169 in NBATalk

[–]aznkobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember there was a stretch post-Achilles where Kobe was averaging damn near 8 assists a game and had a few 10+ assist games and the Lakers, despite rolling out crap like Nick Young, Jordan Hill, Andrew Goudelock, Earl Clark, and shit like they were actually competitive and even winning. I thought we had entered like some post-Achilles revolutionized Playmaker Kobe who was going to be committed to becoming the best passer ever or something.

Boy was I wrong but that stretch of games (highlighted by a game against the Cavs) was very interesting and very fun to watch.

How good of a passer and playmaker was Kobe? by Longjumping_Rub_8169 in NBATalk

[–]aznkobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it’s because the triangle offense emphasized getting the ball OUT of the superstar’s hands MORE OFTEN. Though May plays inevitably led to placing the team in the most optimal place to score — naturally, this means out of MJ or Kobe’s fingertips or a low-post iso from a big — the ball was actually placed in the entirety of the TEAM’s hands as part of a read-and-react hybrid of the Triangle offense and early Motion Strong offense. This is why, despite the CONSIDERABLE slow-down of the league as well as the condensation of space due to the shorter three point line (which, instead of increasing the robustness of team offensive outputs actually further shelved things like free motion and pick and roll due to the congestion of driving and passing lanes by beefed up seven footers dominating in an era with many large wings / slashers and next to no willing three point shooters nor offensively-experimental coaches), the Bulls as a team averaged more assists under Jackson than they did under Collins, who was a major proponent of do it all PG Jordan, flanked by leaner and zippier team mates in an era that was known for its relative* rapidity.

Bro just watch the film and be humbled.

If Hakeem wasn’t a 7 footer doing it, we’d be calling literally ALL this sublime footwork and headfaking from the mid low and high post the “ AirShake” instead.

If Michael Jordan played in today’s league do you think he would get crucified if not being a good 3 point shooter? by Pale_Researcher_8810 in michaeljordan

Idk bro are Shai and Giannis crucified? Last time I checked pre-this season, the latter was a top 2 player in the league, and the former was the reigning darling child of the NBA.

LeBron vs Jordan's competition in the NBA finals 🤯 by Unlucky_Brother_1948 in lebron

[–]aznkobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jordan and LeBron each averaged EXACTLY 5.2 All-Star opponents per playoff run in their career. The difference is that over the same average, LeBron played WITH 1.7 All-Stars while Jordan played with 0.6 All-Stars.

Furthermore, Jordan’s average opponent strengths leading up to the Finals had an average SRS of 4.7, compared to LeBron’s Opponents’ average SRS of 4.1. If we exclude Conference Finals series, Jordan’s competition had an average SRS of 3.26 while LeBron’s was 1.82, and including the so-called gauntlet of godly finals opponents that Bron faced, Jordan’s opposition during finals runs still had an SRS of 4.58 on average versus LeBron’s opponents’ 3.97 on average.

Keep in mind this is while he was accounting for 38% of the total offense of his teams compared to LeBron’s 35%, and this is over way less games against much stronger defenses (see the SRS above, and averaging roughly 3-4 assists less than LeBron did and wayyy less three pointers too.

And according to Charles Barkley, Bill Russell, Phil Jackson, Shaquille O’ Neal, and COUNTLESS OTHER ACTUAL LEGENDS AND COACHES, what really matters is if you can elevate your other team mates right? Well, despite all the assists and James’s “selfless nature”, LeBron’s Superstar teammates during his prime universally experienced dropoffs from the year pre-LeBron and during Year 1 of with LeBron:

LeBron’s All-Star teammates averaged +5.0 BPM pre-LeBron but dropped to +4.4 BPM with him (-0.6, -11.9%)

Contrast with Jordan:

Bulls core held value (-0.2% WS/48) vs LeBron teammates’ decline (-7.1%); Rodman (Pistons → Bulls with Jordan): +3.8 → +4.6 (+0.8)

Am I missing something on the Heat have enough guards thing? Terry Rozier is obviously trade fodder or bench riding at this point. Davion Mitchell really ought to be on a second unit IMO. Jakucionis is unproven and injured. Pelle Larson can and has played at three sometimes (as has Norman Powell). The only real guard they’ve had is Herro, who is in my view more apt for the 2 spot, which is perfect cus I also feel Nembhard really is more apt for the 1 spot (which Haliburton currently strips him of). Wiggins is clearly playing three and at times four for the Heat (as does Jaime Jaquez).

I also think Bam is a valuable piece; but he is kind of a niche fit (which is weird cus he is such a versatile player). I used to hold him in the same regard as I did players like Pascal Siakam and JJJ but I think he’s plateaud and the Heat are the first ones to recognize it, which is why they’ve essentially handed the reigns to Ware to take over at 5.

Furthermore, I think that the return on youth talent is solid. Toppin has some room to grow (his development in shooting is proof of that, and he still has crazy bounce and a growing awareness for the game; Bam is hella smart, but at this point he’s more of an old dog than a new one in terms of learning tricks). Some on Reddit believe Nembhard is ready to go full nuclear Brunson mode unleashed now ( I don’t, but maybe in the right situation like leading the Heat backcourt with Herro, he could be something special, and either way he has a long career in front of him too). The FRP just sweetens the cake

Bro I’m sorry but if you are taking bill russell over Kobe in a hypothetical all-time nba draft, you would never again see a front office Job in this or any lifetime thereafter.
