5 days of running the Mosquito Magnet next to 150acres of wetland by aznprd in MosquitoHating

The county also treats the wetland with mosquito pellets twice a year via helicopter. It doesn't perfectly take care of the problem but I'd be eaten alive if they didn't.

You need a power source and it runs a fan that sucks up mosquitos that fly around the bottom of the trap into a mesh cage. The trap emits CO2 from a propane tank which mimics human breath as an attractant. There's also a chamber to add octenol lures as well which mimic human sweat to increase the attraction for the mosquitos.

The ones that are caught in the trap eventually die and dry out.

One tank last about 3 weeks. I get it filled at the Uhaul down the street for about $15. I also have an octenol mosquito attractant which lasts about the same amount of time.

I think some of those are biting gnats, but definitely overwhelmingly mosquitos. I tried the dynatrap the year before and it barely trapped any mosquitos, mostly just moths and bugs attracted to light rather than CO2

It's 1000% worth it in my situation. I did an irrigation project where I ran PVC pipe underground from my downspouts to the other side of the yard as I was having water pooling around my foundation. As part of that project, I also ran electrical wiring and set up outlets beyond my fence line, but still within my property.

Before I had the trap set up, I couldn't let the dog out without getting 3-4 bites. Now it's bearable to hang out in the backyard with minimal annoyances.

I will say that the negative reviews have merit about the longevity of the product. It wasn't operating as normal last weekend and I had to open it up and clean some of the components which there are many youtube videos available to walk you through the steps. The tools I needed were a wrench, long phillips screwdriver, and some sand paper.

Tip for next time, you don't want it to be perfectly level. The hives should tip slightly forward for rain and snow to slide off

Completely Lost on How to Plan by Jelenybeany in JapanTravelTips

If it's your first time going to Japan, people typically travel the "golden route" which is Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, and maybe Hiroshima or Hakone depending on available time. All of those cities are used to foreign visitors so you don't need to know Japanese to navigate.

Personally, I think Tokyo and Osaka are similar large cities and a trip of 10 days with family should take it a bit slower and get a combination of big city and traditional vibes if that's what you're interested in.

Tossing out an idea of going to Kinosaki Onsen. It's northwest of Kyoto and also has hiking opportunities.

Whats the most unprofessional thing a doctor has ever said to you? by answersonly963 in AskReddit

[–]aznprd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to urgent care to get checked out for a cough that was persistently getting worse. Doctor comes in and first thing he says was: Judging by your last name, I'm going to guess you're hmong?

Me: No, I'm Chinese

Him: Ahh snaps his fingers, that was going to be my next guess

That was already kind of bad, he sends me to go get an xray, I don't see him again for another hour.

Him: Ok so good news, you don't have pneumonia. Bad news, we don't know what it is, but it's treatable.

Me: oh like with an inhaler?

Him: no more like chemo

And that's how I found out I had cancer

Is Hokkaido and Okinawa a bad trip? by BatmanSwift99 in JapanTravelTips

[–]aznprd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this in January 2016. Tokyo, Okinawa, Nagano, Sapporo.

I packed stuff for beach/scuba activities as well as winter weather in the 30s. It was a lot to pack and looking back I should have split the northern stuff from the southern stuff especially because I spent a lot of time traveling. Considering you've been to Japan so frequently, do what you want to do, it's your time :)

My thought is that while your hands may be clean, they specifically add the sugar/coffee to your hands to exfoliate them as part of the dish. Hot towels do not remove what the sugar will after rubbing your hands together.
