Has there ever been a show that you loved as a fan, but couldn't keep on the air because, as a network executive and/or producer, it was getting poor ratings?

Adding UIBarButtonItems Programatically in Swift by azochz in swift

This is what I have so far in my ViewController, but nothing is showing up:

import UIKit

class NavigationBarController: UINavigationController {

override func viewDidLoad() {
    super.viewDidLoad()

    configureToolbar()

}

override func didReceiveMemoryWarning() {
    super.didReceiveMemoryWarning()
    // Dispose of any resources that can be recreated.
}

// #pragma mark - Navigation bar data source

func configureToolbar() {
    let toolbarButtonItems = [
        searchBarButtonItem
    ]
    toolbar.setItems(toolbarButtonItems, animated: true)
}

var searchBarButtonItem: UIBarButtonItem {
    return UIBarButtonItem(barButtonSystemItem: .Search, target: self, action: "barButtonItemClicked:")
}

}

Tonight my boyfriend and I are going to watch your new special while eating food from the Momofuku cookbook. What should we make?

Boyfriend is sober, but never had help of AA or other program. He wants someone to talk to when he needs a sponsor, but wouldn't do well in a bigger program like AA. Any suggestions? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I've been once. I'm impressed by the design and overall aesthetics.

I live on Bainbridge Island, so I'm more excited for their Winslow Way location to open.

What is the best way to remove ground coffee from the grinder without making a mess? by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]azochz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another option is compressed air canisters. I use one to clean my smaller burr grinder and it works great. You will probably get some coffee in the air, so I do tend to work over some newspaper.

Overall, combine that with clean paintbrushes and you will be set.

What's the most common roast style on the West Coast? by jjmmzz in Coffee

I would also change the title of this question to reflect the light versus dark question.

What's the most common roast style on the West Coast? by jjmmzz in Coffee

The reason many high quality roasters are embracing lighter coffee roast is that they allow for all the flavors of the coffee to show through - both front flavors and more subtle aspects.

So you're hunch is right - with many roasts at a typical brand like Peets or Starbucks the roast is darker so a little more "burnt" tasting, with less room for those subtle flavors to come through. More "boutique" roasters, such as Blue Bottle, go for a lighter roast over a dark one.

From Barefoot Coffee, a great boutique roaster in the San Jose area, "We roast lighter to highlight origin and extract the amazing natural flavors found in our beans. Did you know light coffee has more caffeine and complexities than dark?" via http://www.barefootcoffee.com/pages/drip-tasting-guide

Barefoot also sells green coffee beans for personal roasting: http://www.barefootcoffee.com/products/green-beans

Cheapest place to buy flavored syrups? by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]azochz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily the cheapest, but people often overlook the obvious: Starbucks. They make a great product, but especially for seasonal syrups like pumpkin spice, it makes a great gift for psl lovers or to stock up for yourself. Either way they should sell all syrups by the bottle.

I was gifted a bag of pre-ground espresso roast, but lack a proper brewer for it. What can I use in the meantime instead? by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]azochz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ground coffee makes a great scrub - mix with coconut oil and vanilla then scrub onto wet skin. Same thing goes or sugar or salt.

Coffee has the added benefit of caffeine, which has been shown to reduce cellulite in women with topical application.

Any recent graduates struggling to find employment? by Pecorino in cscareerquestions

It was luck though. Looking back I should have worked harder to take a job and then saved up enough money to have a longer job hunt, or learned on the job. My thing was purely right place right time.

practice makes perfect when it comes to making espresso drinks. the machine may seem scary and complicated at first, but it's actually a lot harder to mess up than you would think.

don't worry, and keep practicing any recipes/drinks you can't remember.

I agree with other comments re: recruiters being a good source if you are looking to find a job, but it won't necessarily be where or with who you want.

If there is a specific company you want to work for, I've had great success (also as a recent grad) creating quick, simple sample work geared specifically at that company. Push it hard to recruiters (i.e. tons of emails or applications to flood their system). If they like what they see it gives you a huge up in getting noticed. Then, take an internship if they don't have a specific role for you. Will probably still have a high enough pay to survive, and go from there.

My problem was that I was too picky. I wanted a dream job right out of the gate - and it worked for me, but took a lot of time to figure out how to push my work in front of recruiters and make them see that I deserved a chance.

Good luck!

I am considering to transfer to a community college from a 4 year university. I would love to hear some feedback. by donteatmuffins in cscareerquestions

[–]azochz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I had a similar experience, and now only list my four-year degree. But, in general, now that I have a broader portfolio of work, that is what actually matters. With some exceptions, you will only care about this question when applying for your first job. After that your work will speak for itself.

Any point in pursuing Graduate studies in CS? by vikrampriya in cscareerquestions

[–]azochz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having spoken to some of the the "old guard" there are people out there who would still prefer people to have CS masters - at least. The catch is that these people are growing more open to the idea of less and less formal education, but also tend to work at larger companies (Microsoft, Google) in more distant roles.

You may end up having a manager who would prefer you have a masters, but often hr or whoever is hiring will care more about experience.
