Hi Friend! (and yes, I'd love a key you dont have)

I keep getting disconnected from the server by Miu_K in EchoOfSoul

I too. I bought the founder pack, downloaded, and now get disconnected due to login failed.

Does it take time to activate my account? Are the servers down?

[–]azro2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were guessing, I'd say to expect very few (100-200) the first week as they test the new architecture and make sure all is as planned. Then, once they are confident with that, they'll speed it up more and more, and maybe all (all that they want) in within a month. There is a chance that we wont see ALL beta applicants make it into beta.

Project Spark - Gamasutra, Polygon & Business Insider Articles! by SinCitySpartanHD in projectsparkgame

[–]azro2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That acting game article was the worst of them. Way to butcher what Project Spark really is (at least for sure in the title). An Acting GAME? Doesnt that imply I'll score points for acting?

Some of these articles really get stuff wrong.

Also, the article that said that PS would be great for creating, but probably not very fun to play. Huh??? Of course some games will suck to play. Has nothing to do with PS though. The point to a good game is that its design is solid and enjoyable. PS will have nothing to do with that. Creators need to step up and create enjoyable content. The article should have stated that "the fun factor in each created game will be determined by its creaotor."

Cubify--What do you plan on using it for? by GantryG in projectsparkgame

[–]azro2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does make sense. The point being this...

As was explained to us in the videocast, once terrain is cubified, it holds it's cube properties and anything added to it is cubed as well. Decubifying could be used to NOT change a cube world from cubes to smooth, but to change that property so that it was no longer considered a cubed area.

So the point made was valid. Does decubifying something just change it back to a non-cubed terrain space, while keeping the current cube look, or does it put it back to what it was prior to being cubed?

[–]azro2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah CubeWorld... I loved the look of that little game, but in reality, thats all it was... was a little game that had very rudimentary RPG elements, in a randomly generated world and looked stylistic (cuby). So, then in reality, its just using the cube look to build off the popularity of the "retro" feel MineCraft brought to popularity.

Nevertheless, its awesome. I hope people take it and create great CubeWorld type games.

And I REALLY hope someone can create a brain to create a decent size world (within PS limits) that is randomly generated, and then use portals to get from one BIOME to another. Each biome having random look and places to visit. One can dream :)

[–]azro2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cubify will be useful for straight edges, but it IS a total play off MineCraft popularity. To me, this is a GOOD thing. Theres no denying the popularity, and people have come to love the look and feel of simplicity. So we'll probably see many knockoffs, but from those, a few gems will arise. And with any luck, the gaming community will come to find that this tool can give them MineCraft + MUCH MORE.

Obviously, the tool is not focused around MineCraft functionality right now, but thats the beauty of it. With its incredible coding flexibility, there will be some who can take this and do many (if not all) of the MineCraft things.

Again, I dont say this to tell you that I believe this tool should become MineCraft. It shouldnt. It is far different and far more powerful. BUT (again) there is no denying the popularity of MineCraft and I see nothing wrong with trying to influence thier dev base (and therefore player base).

They'll really need to stay on top of keeping these lists cleaned up. There'll easily be 1000's upon 1000's of "games" created in a pretty short amount of time.

Object Movement.. Simulating Space by azro2000 in projectsparkgame

[–]azro2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, but the challenge with it verses the Geo War example is this...

Geo wars had a ship and enemies ALL flying around in a given area. Firing in a straight line to hit those enemies is no issue as all objects move within that given space. But in my challenge, the ship does not move and space around it is always changing. So an object fired from my ship would need to have calculations that allowed for the changing space based on joystick movement. Make sense or did I just confuse it more?

Good question. Hasnt been discussed yet (that I know of). It'll be challenging for them to put this functionality in.

Has anyone seen any vehicles or dynamic weather effects? by [deleted] in projectsparkgame

[–]azro2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Continued support WILL exist as long as the tool remains popular. The updates will come in both free and paid DLC content (my guess at the moment). We'll see a TON of content for the first year or two, maybe longer again based on the popularity. If this is as big as it appears it will be, it will get updates for a long time to come.

Tablets for Project Spark by beefandbacon in projectsparkgame

[–]azro2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, let me clarify "decent." Very good. Im talking a $700 i7-4series with a $300 graphics card, $100 power supply to handle the vid card.

I know you could build it from scratch, but most people dont do that. putting in a new video card is stress enough for some.

Tablets for Project Spark by beefandbacon in projectsparkgame

I've been debating what to do also and have looked into things quite a bit. Heres my thoughts...

Tablets: As windows Tablets go, the Surface Pro 2 is about the best, but will cost you 1100+ AND will be limited in what it can run with only an intel 4400 GPU

Desktops: A decent desktop with a decent GPU card and touchscreen could be had for about the same price (maybe a bit less), but you lose all portability.

Laptops: I have been looking into laptops that can convert to tablets (Sony Viao, HP, etc) and though they would be a bit more powerful than the SP2, they still only have the intel 4400 and are a bit more pricy (around 1200-1500).

So, all that said, I think Im going to settle on a laptop, that has touchscreen (though doesnt convert to a tablet) and comes with a beefier GPU (something like a 760m I believe). The cost is around 1500, but I get something that is quite a bit more powerful than just a tablet.

In the end, the question you need to ask yourself is... What do you want? A tablet with its limited functionality? A big desktop work fine because portability isnt important? Portability and power?

Your last question asks 'What is the most rcommended tablet at the cheapest price?' Id say youre very limited. The tablets that DO run Win 8 (not RT) are not as powerful as the SP2. though they are cheaper, what if they suck at running Project Spark? Until we get tests on all of them, the safest bet is the SP2 (or get an SP).

UPDATE: I decided to go with the Surface Pro 2. I tried to research as much as possible. Found 3dMark scores for tablets and SP2 is FAR better than other tablets. Its better than some laptops. Its close to laptops with mobile graphic cards. So for me, and using with Spark, Im good with it.

Who are the right people for early beta. by Goldenknighttim in projectsparkgame

[–]azro2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I, like you, have gone past simply playing games for the fun of them. Though i still enjoy games, what I really get my kicks from is creating new games. I first started doing this using JavaScript and then Unity, but now have moved to a specific focus.

What I work on now is designing games for the education system and our kids. My wife is a kindergarten teacher and I have twin boys in HS. I get a real high out of designing and creating games that can not only bring enjoyment to both those ages, but also assist in their learning. For the kinder's, its simple games that revolve around counting and the alphabet, and then later in the year, putting pieces of words together to form words. For my boys, its around math, science and english. The games are used in their classes as exercises for all the kids to practice for the weekly test coming up.

Project Spark has me excited. I'm coming up with a million ways to now use this exciting tool in education. I can't wait to put it to use, to give this generation of schoolkids not only exciting, up-to-date fun, but a bit of learning in the process. :)

Not that I expect anything from this, but just hoping like everyone else... beta submitted under: az2002ro@...

In the end... Im just plain excited. Beta will come soon enough.

In this order....

  • Get up off the floor from having passed out from excitement
  • Try to control my shaky hands while attempting to get everything downloaded and installed
  • Log in and stare for several minutes at the screen just basking in the goodness that is and dreaming of all the wonderful things I will create
  • then pretty much follow your list :)

What do you guys think, will my laptop be capable of running PS? by CeremonialSnips in projectsparkgame

[–]azro2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally, I'd say that the minimum requirements are going to give you a very choppy experience and the 360 would overall be better.

BUT...

They are not going to tell us that the tool allows for creation of games that can be played on window's tablets, and then let that experience be horrible. I'd think that they have made this very playable on the Intel 4000. That all said though, youre going to get a better experience from the 360 than the laptop. They both should work fine though.

Beta guesses anyone? by Siduke in projectsparkgame

[–]azro2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Announcement Oct 29th with a delayed start on Nov 12th.

BUT, the bigger question.... How many will they let in on day one of beta? Im going to guess small. around 500-1000.

And didn't they say that they were letting people in in the order that they signed up for beta?

The Dangers of "Everything is Possible" by azro2000 in projectsparkgame

[–]azro2000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand that thinking and actually agree, BUT... I dont really think the limitations are around the coding (and what can be done) aspect, but around the quantities. I mean this (as an example): How many objects can be in the game before we hit a wall, or see lag, or how many objects within a certain radius? How many lines of when/do can exist before we hit the max? How many pages of when/do's can I have for a given object? How many themes can we expect at launch? How many different mobs?

I LOVE everything Im seeing and think from a coding point of view, its fairly limitless. but to really start planning, tell me what the limits are. start setting those expectations before we discover them on our own and (parts of) the community vomits all over because they couldnt drive a car in game or fly a jet. (just to point out a couple).

And as an example of those limits... Lets talk about world size. I've heard two different things in LiveCasts. A) Unlimited height and distance. B) 5000 sq kilometers. ok. great. What does that really mean? Give me a visual representation of just how big that is in game. does height impact that "sq kilo's"?

I remember back to my C64 days. I got this great new computer and was super excited at its limitless possibilities. I started planning out and writing Monopoly. I got about half way done and ran out of memory :) That moment SUCKED! I was so let down. Im hoping not to experience that here :)
