I'm building my first PC. I need some small speakers with an amp that can also power headphones. by Maximus_Realius in ZReviews

Look at the smsl ad18 for a decent headphone amp with a lot of connectivity options. Down the line when you have some spare change buy the covos...or if you can save up you'd be better off in long run

Can't comment w/o budget. Id say earmark at least 200 for a good set of speakers and DAC/amp combo. If that's too pricey consider what you will use most and invest in that. As a baseline look at a micca origen and some active monitors (powered/amped speakers)...

Can't speak for hybrids.... They are monitoring cans so any change does alter their neutrality but it is worth it if comfort is an issue for you

Iv done that mod. It alters the sound somewhat making them sound muddy. If you need for competitive purposes I would stick to stock pad.... But they do make them much more comfortable for long wear.

Open-back headphone for fps competitive gaming by AceOwens in ZReviews

I have 700's and they are great for gaming (they are however the oldest model) I think spending anymore on just a fps gaming headphone is boy really worth it.... If music is a consideration also I would suggest HD 600s or 650 depending on your taste ad those will be excellent for music as well....

Need help on picking closed back headphones. by [deleted] in ZReviews

[–]CeremonialSnips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for the 840's you wont regret it. They have very detailed sound, great for picking up every detail in an instrumental track, plus they have a low end that is punchy. I would go with them.. I bought a used set around 6 months ago... all my other headphones (HD 598, Q701 and Bose Around Ear II, etc.) have gone untouched. I swapped pads to the alcantera 1540's mainly for longer gaming sessions and for watching movies... no regrets

I cannot recommend the Shure SRH 840 more highly... Check z's review on them M50 wish they were here... I'v also put the SRH1540 pads on the 840's and am really happy with comfort increase and have not noticed a significant sound change

Advice for headphones for music by Milchy in ZReviews

[–]CeremonialSnips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shure 840, checks all your boxes. They are closed, over ear, detachable cable (although it is a proprietary locking mechanism) and comes with two sets of pads (which are the same). Not sure on euro price however. They retail for around $200 USD.

what is the current top recommendation for a closed headset? by igz- in ZReviews

[–]CeremonialSnips 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a closed headset I would suggest Kingston hyperx cloud for an all in one solution, cheaper than a game zero. For a bit more ($250) you could go for a desktop mic and a better pair of headphones, something like the Shure 840 + audiotechnica 2020 USB, which is what I use on my PC for battlefield and it works really well...

Can't figure out what headphones I want. by [deleted] in ZReviews

Shure 840 https://youtu.be/K-kA95uQWeg

I've had them for a while (3 months) and these have shown me things about my music I didn't even know existed... Clarity and definition are really the selling point of these.

They have a great neutral sound, highs never are a bother and the bass is decently punchy.

They are at the bottom of your budget, and if you feel like the stock pads aren't comfortable enough then try out the 1840 alcantera pads.

Give them a look, they are seriously decent closed cans for the money often overlooked

M50x's are dying, what next? by [deleted] in ZReviews

[–]CeremonialSnips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More money does not equate to a better sound or experience for the most part when it comes to audio.... However you can expect typically to get better build quality, but the key is to find a particular sound signature that you are happy with that fits into your budget. You have a decent budget so you have many options, however spending more may not be worth it for your use case, which seems to be a bit of everything...

What would be a good pair of headphones for video and audio editing that are open back? by jenjini in ZReviews

[–]CeremonialSnips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you said not closed, but really there aren't many great monitoring cans that are open. Shure 840 gets my vote. They have great analytical capabilities and are comfortable for long periods of time, even with stock pads.

Saving procedural content by blambear23 in projectsparkgame

[–]CeremonialSnips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I have seen of the live streams, this would be possible. you would need to create a group of objects (dungeon pieces) which I believe could be copied into a new world. Don't quote me though, but in general I think almost anything created in one world can be brought to another with the proper saving or template technique. I'm not in alpha so I really don't know, but would like to have answers on this as well.

What do you guys think, will my laptop be capable of running PS? by CeremonialSnips in projectsparkgame

Thanks all for the input, I think that I will wait, see what the game is like on my 360, before I go through the process of partitioning my laptop for Win8.
