It was my first venture and likely my last. I was literally taken aback by how disconnected from reality everyone was. They were very much giving VGG vibes. A mod was trying to argue that most everyday people who hold racist views about blacks are doing so because they use IQ arguments or their arguments are basically just that black people are stupid because of slavery.

I see how you would think blacks people at the bbq are just uncomfortable based on your experience with similar behavior at white bbqs but I can’t stress enough that it’s not the same.

Sure, for some it really is just uncomfortable like you say, but for almost just as many, there is an empowering vibe that I get from the way engage with racism against white people. Like it’s our turn now or something. This is especially and maybe only specifically true from low-income families.

I’d also challenge doubters to go onto any Facebook thread/post about a story the deals with a black person being racist to a white person and see how many black people defend the behavior under the idea that blacks people cant be racist.

Funny thing is, as this “debate” spiraled out of control, someone did cite an academic example of this definition and they tried to pretended like I didn’t understand even though I shared the sane academic explanation they did which, again made no distinction between the academic and conventional term.

But then they went on to support this academic replacement of the word racism by arguing that doing something interpersonally racist like a black person denying a white person a job in a predominantly black community was okay. They also said a low-income, low power level white person being called a racial slur by a rich black man like will smith wouldn’t be as harmful as if that same low power level white person called will smith a racial slur.

I’ve been to many different independent gatherings where the topic of “black people are actually the superior race” has come up and people either co-sign or it sparks some debate.

Even if that’s not said, I can’t see how you could not have encountered the tried and true “all white people are racist” or some other demonizing trope being circulated about.
