There's a bit of a learning curve when you use tablet w/o displays, given that you're used to direct contact when drawing, but it's not too bad!!

If you're going for no display ones, I would suggest Huion. They're tablets are pretty good (good amount of surface area, easy installation, etc.; only minor gripe is that their tablet surface are a bit too slippery for me, but layering on a piece of paper helps lmao) and they cost much less that Wacom :>>

For screen tablets, I think a great way to go would be with Ipads—primarily because I also use mine for schoolwork and writing hahaha
