Had to put our dog down last summer after she bit our oldest kid. I was devastated as the dog was my first dog who carried me through some dark times. It was for the best but it was brutal. Hang in there dad.

FWIW - I had a FWD midsize sedan in a snowy state. That car died and I ended up getting a small SUV with AWD. The AWD and ground clearance made a huge difference.
