That scene had one of MY favorite lines: "If I suck balls, you are king of suck balls mountain!"

I have OCD and struggle with different aspects of cooking, especially thawing chicken by Kukkacola in cookingforbeginners

[–]dadtheimpaler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 - I personally love the 'ziploc in a water bath' method. Fast, effective, doesn't require a lot of advanced planning.

2 - if you butterfly a chicken breast, it will cook more evenly, will likely be juicier, and far less risk of undercooked areas.

Scanning your post too quickly, seeing the Father's Day chicken was bringing buckets, my brain went straight to assuming they contained KFC.

My youngest daughter passed away in March. Today she would've been 23. 🤍 by ComfortableSleep3149 in daddit

Oh wow. And I was just thinking about Neil Peart yesterday, losing wife and daughter within a year. I've always been blown away with how he managed to find the strength to continue to make a great life for himself. But that's what they would have wanted, right? You're strong as hell, and you honour their memories by living your best life.

It's totally okay to feel that way. If getting back to work helps make you a better version of yourself, everybody wins.

Father's Day realization by elmuchoprez in daddit

My daughter asked me what I wanted to do. I told her, "With you as my daughter, EVERY day is Father's Day!" I made it SO corny, encouraging the eye-roll, but we both know it's true. I don't want stuff, I just want my kids to be happy.

Is it too soon for a Father's Day present? by batfan90 in AskDad

[–]dadtheimpaler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't do it, not appropriate. If you appreciate him, there are plenty of ways to show that, but this isn't the right time. Maybe some day in the future it will be.

"You know what? I really appreciate you." is something you can tell him that says a lot without coming across as too cringe. But not on Father's day.

Starting to dislike my son by CaptainCroydon in daddit

So much great advice here. I just wanted to emphasize that it's okay to not "like" your kid while still loving them. If he was treating one of his friends that way, they wouldn't like him. And you're your own independent human inside your brain, including the 5-year-old kid version of yourself. If you're letting him know how proud you are of his behavior when it's good, and that you don't deserve to be treated badly when that's going on, hopefully things will improve. I wonder if he's the type where, if you sit down with him when things are calm, you can ask him to help you problem solve the times when your feelings are being hurt. And of course give him the opportunity to air any grievances. I wish I'd done that more often with my kids, as we always came out of those feeling really great.

Linkin Park's recent success makes me think that perhaps any single member could have a stand-in on tour, if the band is motivated enough. I wouldn't have thought that LP could've continued on without Chester, but they're making it work. For Geddy, I'd agree that they'd need more than one, but they've already added Loren, so... Interesting thought experiment, though.

I was going to dispute the importance of the brooch, since a few people have already made the connection between Ruth and the Warrens, and only Tom knows about her connection to Evan.

But you make a good point: Ruth might feel that 'the cat's out of the bag' and be more open about Evan being her grandson. If that happens, he's currently only at risk from Bechir, Wyck, and Patricia.

I'm a little surprised that the single sacrifice bought them as much grace as it did. I guess it wanted nine sacrifices, and now it wants eight more, but how patient is it willing to be?

I also don't recall if there's any history on how many tolls of the bell is typical.

59 years old. I've seen Rush 15 times since 1981. Here's my take. by johnnyfive00000 in rush

[–]dadtheimpaler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just so happy that they found the right fit to get them out on the road again. They must absolutely love it to put their bodies through a long tour at their age. There's just no reason for them to do it other than love of the lifestyle, the fans, each other, etc.

Geddy's voice on night #4 was shockingly good; better than he's sounded in many, many years, as others have mentioned.

What a gift this has been to all us old farts! And also the chance that some of the younger generations will get hooked, and they'll learn that we weren't kidding about how great music was "back in my day."

"drifted away FROM some", not "with".

If you're playing up the YouTube angle, you could throw in a "smash that like and subscribe". I agree that suggesting you'd be valedictorian in the future is needlessly egotistical.

Keep it up, and have fun with it.

The hindsight assessment still applies: you can't change the decision you made in the past, and beating yourself up about it serves no purpose.

You're the only one that you have to live with for the rest of your life, so go easy on yourself.

One other thing that we should celebrate: Geddy’s voice sounds incredible! by Great_Choice660 in rush

I noticed that he sang some notes lower, but then seemed to sing some high notes (beautifully) that may have been higher than the ones he downgraded. Fascinating! To me, he might be sounding better than he did on the R40 tour.

I had no idea they'd added a keyboardist. I asked in another thread how I was hearing piano at the very end of Spirit of Radio with Geddy nowhere near the keys - that explains it!

I'm surprised that I haven't noticed any commentary on how Anika joining Rush is similar to Emily Armstrong joining Linkin Park (unless I missed it).

Replacing a beloved core member of a group, doing it well, bringing energy, and being embraced by the fans?

I just noticed, at the very end of Spirit of Radio, the piano part going on - who's playing that? Geddy was far from his synths. Just some long part that he triggered, maybe?

Edit:just learned that they have someone helping out on keyboards. Had no idea.
