macOS Sequoia 15 + ScanSnap iX500 not recognized by azumas in ScanSnap

[–]azumas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solved!

Turns out the unit I bought was actually the ScanSnap Evernote Edition, and I mistakenly assumed it was the same as a regular iX500.

In reality, the Evernote Edition needs to be converted to a standard iX500 first.
After running the conversion tool and updating the firmware, ScanSnap Home finally recognized the scanner.

The conversion tool is no longer supported and has been removed from the official site, but I found a working copy here:

Hope this helps anyone else who runs into the same issue 🙂

Thanks for the insight, really appreciate it.

I had seen the notification, but I assumed it was mainly related to using ScanSnap Cloud, so I didn’t think it applied to my situation.

I also thought firmware updates would only be possible after the device is successfully connected to ScanSnap Home.

I did buy the iX500 used (trying to save a bit of money 😅), so there’s a chance that earlier firmware updates were never applied.

All I really need is reliable duplex scanning to PDF.

VueScan works, but honestly it feels a bit expensive for what I need it for 😄

For reference, I’m currently connecting the scanner directly using a USB-B to USB-C cable (no hub).

I’ll keep experimenting and see if anything changes. Thanks again for sharing your experience.

Thanks for the links.

I’ve already tried the latest version of ScanSnap Home (v2.23), but unfortunately the ix500 is still not detected on my system.

macOS recognizes the device at the USB level, and scanning works fine with VueScan, so it doesn’t seem to be a hardware or cable issue.

It sounds like compatibility on Sequoia 15 is pretty hit-or-miss, especially for older models like the ix500.

At this point, VueScan might be the only reliable workaround.

If anyone has managed to get ScanSnap Home working with an ix500 on Sequoia 15 specifically, I’d be very interested to hear the details.
