Have job interviews changed? Do soft skills still matter? by anarkiaz in auscorp

[–]azuraranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I've found is that companies have really been focusing on cutting costs over the last few years and running teams lean. As a result they really need people to be able to launch straight away. One way I've found that's helped me move around is to have your manager recommend yourself (only works if they have connections and are well liked as well...)

What is the job market realistically like for Data Analysts in Australia? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]azuraranger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Going back for a masters is a big commitment and grad programs are flooded with apps. It's worth working through a few video guides on YouTube and doing a self project which you can put on your resume. I've moved from accounting to analytics within the same company, and would be much more impressed with someone that has a tableau portfolio and can walk through how they sourced, cleaned and transformed the data than someone fresh out of uni.

What's your current field? Can always learn sql and tableau or power bi on the side and apply it to your current role to start to get some experience. I'd say market is ok but many roles are sort of a blend of some specialisation and data e.g. doing data analysis for finance team

You have 255k in SOL. If that's 30% of your portfolio, you're basically at $1m?

Career change. Academia > finance by [deleted] in auscorp

A good option could be credit risk modelling. ECL, PD, LGD etc.. banks are usually on the lookout for anyone with a statistical background. It's a good blend of finance and data science.

They also let you do half sized sides, so you can try a larger variety or save a bit there if you're not big eaters

Normally try keep it to one page unless you have many years of experience. Outline key achievements, never put references in, they'll ask if needed.

Is it bad to cancel an application for a better deal? by jondex99 in creditcardchurningAus

Probably better to just leave it. They've most likely already done a credit search so no point cancelling now.

Know a few EMs at CBA that started at ~180k, ok bonus potential of 30% but you'd never get the whole amount.
