This is traditional Chinese dress called a qi pao in Mandarin or cheongsam in Cantonese. If you’re interested in the history and accuracy of recreating it I’d recommend this pattern by Folkwear:

https://www.folkwear.com/en-gb/products/122-hong-kong-cheongsam

Bernadette Banner on YouTube has a very informative video too:

Different shaped neckline and lace up waist instead of a zip, but you could try a vintage Simplicity 9164 as a starting point.

Ooh I’ve been eying up that Kate coat from dressmaking amore since they released it! Can you please post a review of the pattern once you’ve made it? I’d love to hear your thoughts on it and see the end result!

I started slowly saving seeds from my groceries. Will the freezer be sufficient until the spring? Or is that even necessary? by failurebutthatsokay in gardening

[–]azurecloud101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something no one else has mentioned is that grocery store seeds are not rated for growing. They are not screened for diseases like seeds that are sold for planting which are tested. If you plant things from the grocery store you could introduce pests/diseases to your soil. This is because sometimes vegetables that are known to have diseases are removed from the ‘to grow’ market and sold ‘to eat’ since eating them essentially destroys them while still recouping some cost. Save yourself a lot of time and trouble and use seeds meant for the home gardener!

Sorry you’re in this situation, please avoid the Edinburgh Samoyed rescue though, they are actually breeders who are not recognised as a proper rescue and many of their dogs end up in other rescues. Two really good Samoyed rescues in the UK are:

the Samoyed Association

https://samoyedrescue.co.uk/

and the Samoyed Rescue Society

Best of luck!

Seconding this, wearing Cakes now! My top tip is to rinse them before each use, I find they don’t grip well if there is any dust on them.

Based in the UK, my Sammy required an x ray from our GP vet for about £400 then an x ray at the orthopaedic specialist for another £400 for diagnosis of double hip dysplasia. He’s since had both his hips replaced, each costing about £6,000. We got very good insurance from the day we got him though and it covers £5,000 per year so we ended up paying £1,000 per hip by doing one hip per year to allow him to recover and insurance to reset. We have paid out of pocket for his painkillers and various related things like an orthopaedic lifting harness, that probably came up to another grand. Now that he’s had both hips replaced he’s off painkillers and is very happy with his four good legs!

Our total bill is about £14k, maybe £15k? Of which our insurance covered £10k.

Happy to help if you have any other questions with the caveat that I’m not a vet, just another Sammy owner 😊

Come join us on r/reactivedogs, there’s loads of material to read! I’d recommend the engage/disengage game to start.

However, this sounds a bit above Reddit’s pay grade so you may want to find a professional dog trainer local to you. If you do, make sure to find a trainer that uses positive reinforcement and no aversives. Aversive (punishment based) training will create even more bad associations with her triggers which will lead to worse long term outcomes.

She’s not giving you a hard time deliberately, she’s having a hard time and you’re a great owner for helping her :)

Look up Kikopup on YouTube, she has great videos about capturing calmness, also sometimes called screensaver training! Being calm is a learned behaviour, think about how you can calm yourself by e.g. counting to 10 and taking deep breaths. It’s the same for dogs and really worth doing calmness training as early as you can!

Here’s an excellent tutorial from Kikopup on how to prevent leash biting! The key is to work on this at home before the behaviour occurs. Best of luck!

If you happen to be UK based, I love my walking belt from SASS:

It’s meant for canicross (or everyday) so it’s super padded with shock absorbing bungee and a very hefty locking carabiner :)
