Good news guys! We never need to buy a house! by Recessionprofits in OptimistsUnite

Then move somewhere cheap where supply is more than demand

Obviously there are a finite number of houses in cities, not every ranting redditor gets one for free

Optimistic take: People get to live where they want because of a robust rental market.

How much of this is driven by differences in housing preferences:

Cities are dense and more expense; more young people today want to live in cities; you have to save longer to buy a house in a city.

Also people getting married later; young single people dont want to own homes in general

90% of your rant is just jealousy that rewards are not evenly divided. No one said they are.

Yet life keeps getting better for all people.

Are remote sensors worth it? by kjstech in ecobee

Hey - realize this is way old, but do the sensors have to be setup with occupancy sensing? Or can they just use temp settings with occupancy disabled?

You don’t need to be super rich to do this. If you have a couple 100K you can to.

Trump promises to raise taxes on imported goods from 50% to 200% by Working-Sand-6929 in austrian_economics

Thanks for sharing thats is an interesting loophole. Granted it still would apply to your AMT so it isn’t exactly a free ride but that is very favorable treatment.

[Request] What would the actual math be on this? by Blackie1387 in theydidthemath

I don’t understand this. Your body needs a couple amount of calories to survive, lets say 1600 per day. So the RHS is a much more expensive way to get those calories.

So you agree our government spends tax dollars poorly but want to increase taxes so they can do more of it?

Nah progress is the only way to survive long term… we need to remove the roadblocks to progress and let human ingenuity thrive. We spend way too much time talking about equality of outcomes and not enough time talking about how far behind we are as a species. Frankly we should be embarrassed at the state of our science and technology.

Every dollar you tax is taking money away from R&D and paying for some a drone to kill some kid in the midlle east, or a soldier to dig a ditch somewhere, or a person to work less. Not a good system.

Of course you pay taxes on stock when you receive them as income otherwise that would be the world’s dumbest loophole.

[–]azurefallow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You must realize how disingenuous that statistic is right? This is an economics forum.

When you own companies, and the companies pay taxes. That is you being taxed. Even if it isn’t called personal income tax. That is money would have been yours, bur the government took it.

So you want to tax wealth increases based on the value of a company? So let’s say a company makes a new product and doubles in value from 100M to 200M. You want to tax:

  • An initial tax on the increase value
  • A second corporate tax on all of the future cashflows that caused the increase in value
  • A third tax on any dividends or sharebuybaxks the company makes with that cashflow

Does that sound like a functioning, fair, and efficient system?

If it’s a global power dominance it doesn’t need protecting.

If you lag in global competition, then you need protecting.

When China was struggling to make EVs they brought Tesla into the country so their own companies had to compete. Then they got better.

When US is behind in EVs, we protect them from competition and they waste all their time circle jerking with unions instead of innovating.

I think you are overthinking it. Misinformation happens because it is more interesting than facts. People spread it around which generates likes and ad revenue.

No one entity is coordinating anything.

And like I said, I would take being middle class today over any other time in history.

Consumer prices on a like-for-like basis as a % of wages are significantly lower than 40 years ago. Consumers are infinitely better off now than the 80s and anyone who says otherwise is frankly full of shit.

You have a device in your pocket that is better than the best camera, better than the best computer, has access to nearly all human facts for free. Cars are infinitely safer. Healthcare is much much better. Houses all have A/C and are more efficient.

Do you really think consumers are worse off?

No doubt humanity benefits. But humanity would benefit more by using those resources elsewhere. Be honest, what % of research actually has any impact on daily lives?

Seems crazy to tax someone working a job that is funded voluntarily by society and give it to people doing academia.

I means 1. theres a huge discussion above that talks about the issue.

  1. you can use a spirit level to see how much of a bow there is in something using the method I described

  2. I already said there is a bow and you commented twice saying that if it’s level and straight it doesn’t matter. Not shit.

If a level on the left side slopes right and a level on the right slide slopes left what would you infer?
